Beware, there appear to be different variants of the PLIPBox that have different power requirements. One variant uses 5V directly, the other has a solid-state relay or something and a 5V regulator, and needs around 8-9V to work.

I have been working on some replacement PSUs for someone, and by request have been adding a DC out jack to them to provide a 5V supply for a PLIPBox. 3A should be enough on the 5V line for the Amiga and modest expansions. I'm not sure what you're talking about regarding the resistor however...
