Updating the ROM will require removing the existing chip from the motherboard and replacing it with a new one. The original chips are read only and can not be updated, and even in the case of an EPROM, the Amiga can't do it by itself, an external programming device is needed.
There are certain accelerators and expansions that make it possible to load the Kickstart from some more modern media (e.g. flash memory), in such a situation a software only update may be possible.
