Yes, FF/Gecko modes work for now but it's mostly a principle thing. We are dangerously close to an exclusive Google/Microsoft-owned Web (even Firefox is losing ground to Chrome rapidly), so pretending to be a mainstream browser to make websites work instead of promoting a browser-independent Web, doesn't seem right. Also note that the FF-compatibility mode pretends to be an older Firefox version (not the latest) so that might cause you similar issues on other websites.
