One thing to work on (and there aren't really that many control techniques in SWOS) is the aftertouch. Moving the stick away from the ball direction lifts it up higher, pushing it in the ball's direction keeps it low to the ground. Timing is tricky, but once you get the hang of it it's very intuitive.
