Non-Amiga, Arcade retrogaming question...

OK, guys, got a question, but as a lead-up, what do all of these screenshots of classic videogames have in common?

If you guessed "the text font", you'd be correct. So my question is, in all of these games, did the programmers intentionally program in the same typefaces for the text, or was it something inherent in the CPU or one of the video chips? Where did this font come from?
