I really think I do play a lot better nowadays (just turned 32) than when I was younger.

The difference is that arcade games usually require a lot more of dedication and memorization than modern, so you can't just play one of those after like 10-15 years and be able to instantly remember everything about the game, unless you *really* have played it many, many, many times to the point of finishing it a dozen of times when young.

And when we were kids, there was a lot more of free time to keep replaying a game and learning it.

Modern games don't have a lot to be learned, unless it's a competitive multiplayer online game or something like that.
