Not all boards surface mounted buster A3000 are socketed, and later A4000 boards are socketed but early A4000 boards it is surface mounted. I'll confirm the revisions when i get home from work.

The Metal Shield is for RF interference, If you are not using the RF Modulator and have on old RF items like the 9XX MHz phones its not needed. That was an issue in 80's and early 90's.

Although the A3000 was a beautiful design, the RAM ZIF sockets were a bad choice, The only other Cards using ZIF Memory (that i know if) were the Comspec RA1000 Memory expansion Cards.
