I'm sure it would be cheaper to have an operation to adjust your eyes to compensate for the flicker. Perhaps some kind of implant that made your eyelids blink in time with the display.

I was thinking of trying 3.9, is it really that bad KG? Using an '030 A1200 with 64Mb RAM and OS3.1 now.
