I think you ought to be able to choose not to use hi-res pointer - it's a separate sprite and can be a different resolution to the screen.

Ed: and you should be able to edit your own graphic too....

All the battery does is keep the clock running...

All the battery does is keep the clock running when the machine is powered off. You can remove it, it just means you need to set the time/date after powering on (if you want it to be right).
