Ok, I booted a 1.3 setup and this is actually a lower case L instead of a ] .. Maybe check your L key, remove the keycap (but not the plunger) and see how the brass contacts look.

You can do all kinds of other things than WHDLoad on the Amiga though. I do agree that adding more RAM makes these things nicer, but you can get many things done (one at a time) with 512/512k.

The RTC is only loaded from on boot and saved to when you decide to save. The OS keeps the real time separately when running.
