Perhaps there is ipf image of old Apple GCR formatted disk? Writing it with kryoflux and then reading it with Amiga in MSBSYNC mode would be easiest way to confirm it.

If at least 9 one bits have been read and first zero bit is detected: sync found, allow DMA. Unless Amiga GCR means something else...

Anyway, Doom is pure integer. Quake uses FPU heavily, PPC emulation uses softfloat only which is slow.
