The only problem with making an internal solution connecting to the A1200 mouse header is that you cannot connect a joystick then, unless you also incorporate a mouse/joystick switch.

I don't understand why commercial mouse adaptors either use a stiff housing plugged directly into the mouse port or a cable made for serial ports. All adaptors I make use at least a flat cable.

I have done exactly that when ripping Workbench disks, and making multiple rips so that unmodified originals can be identified. MrDolby has also catalogued all the part numbers and revisions.
