Don't know if you've solved this, but the solution is to disable "Mouse integration" in the Input menu of virtualbox of your vm.

(right control gives back mouse to host OS)

After switching to fs-uae-3.0 branch, it built correctly. It took 45 minutes to compile :) (on pi 3, single thread make invocation)

wchar.h looks most promising. Maybe try #include <wchar.h> prior to stdlib.h?
