That's what I do. My A4000 gets the time on each boot from the network. I forget what program I use. I'm sure there are many on Aminet.

Someone made a C64 audio chip clone on a FPGA. There was one on display at Amiga34. The SID chip is partly analog so I imagine this was tricky.

I wouldn't have thought so. MOSFETs are voltage controlled devices whereas BJ transistors are current controlled. You'll probably fry the BJT without any current limiting.

Maybe someone cleverer...

The A600, A1200 & A4000 all have IDE. SCSI cannot be used without a SCSI card.
A CF to IDE converter will work fine on any of these machines.

The confusion probably comes with the name of the IDE...

I never owned a C64 back in the 80s (too expensive for my family). A couple of years ago I bought one cheap. The sound quality of the SID is simply amazing. Superior to anything of that age.

One thing I can add is make your pads big enough.
I soldered up a board last weekend that had unnecessarily tiny pads around the pins. Worked first time though.
