Given that WinUAE can emulate a few cards perfectly (eg Picasso II based on the GD5428, Piccolo SD64 based on the 5434) then I guess it is possible to convert the code emulation to an FPGA emulation...

Weird one this... I've had a 1230/56 working quite happily in my 1200 for well over a year, and being reliable as the day is long. I plugged it in, turned it on, and it has been faultless since.
