I always did a silly low-tech RAM check. Drag/drop folders/disk to RAM. If it fills up and runs out of RAM before locking up or crashing, RAM is probably good.

But this doesn't really help tell...

This combination doesn't seem to work. A-MaxInit is in the startup-sequence, but it doesn't seem to function with 3.1.4 so you can't start the emulation. It works with regular 3.1 ROMs.
