If I don't use that colour swapping idea but instead dither the 16 colours and go back to using fast memory then the blitter has time to convert a 160*176 screen to give a resolution of 2x1 pixels....

Yep, you are right... using a sprite screen is a bad idea. It's slower than 4 bit planes.

2x1 pixels are not possible on an OCS screen. I've really put a lot of thought into how the best way to go...

I've been looking at sprite multiplexing. I managed to do it in the early 90s but my memory of it was different to what it is.

What I've learned about it now is that to change a sprite on the...

Wolf3d: more ideas.

I see the other thread got derailed that I started and was locked. Anyway a new thread to discuss some ideas to make Wolfenstein on the Amiga.

The original PC version could run on about 600k I think.

So I would like to keep the memory to 512 chip and 1mb fast which makes it more realistic for 1985. But we will see... I may need to take...

I chose EHB because it's good balance with the cpu running in fast memory to process the chunky pixels. The blitter can cope with the C2P in two frames easy so way not.

The 68000 can read texture...

The Amiga's strong point, if fast memory is used, is that the blitter and code can run as fast as possible at the same time with no DMA contention to slow things down. That's how 17fps is possible......

Yep, I read that a few years ago which is what made me think it's possible on the OCS Amiga.

I'm pretty happy with the testing so far. By drawing the spans horizontal you can process 2 pixels at once. If you encode the textures with mipmapping and have 3 copies of texture data:
