I only played it on Megadrive but it was a very solid game, try it out. It's probably better on console to pick up and play, floppy loading would probably detract from the non-stop action and antics...

Confirmed F/A-18 Interceptor: 512 chip + 512 of any ram enables intro music.

Some versions don't have full sound on 512k (use [cr A-Ha]).
On 512k disable extra drives.

Yep I would say you are right, probably a rebadged 8 or 10mhz part. Try a ceramic 12.5mhz MC68010L10, they are less likely to be molestered. Adding heatsinks will extend the life of the chips.

One thing beige has going for it, the shapes of objects are always visible. Dimly lit or bathed in sunlight you can always pick out the wedge of the A500 or IBM model M keyboard :)

If you dont mind extra hardware you could skip all the overhead by running it on an offline win 7 box or a swappable boot drive or even dual boot. Then you could use WinUAE's great snapshot system...
