Back in the day I paid £50 ish for a 590 with dead PSU , replaced it with an ancient PC PSU linear PSU , didn’t need a load to work just had a rocker switch , worked fine straight off , .

The later Switch Mode PSUs were a bit unreliable , the earlier heavy linear PSUs are better , but I guess there isn't a ready supply of them about now !

Possibly a stupid question !
Got an old A500 , on the MOBO where the RAM is , it is marked 512k/1M , but only half the positions are populated .
Would it be possible to nick the chips of one MOBO...
