How easy was it to get Amigas and software in the US? I'm guessing the 3000 would have been a big seller. Was there much of a piracy scene over there like Europe?

For Apps I don't know, there is also HiSoft BASIC, but that might be aimed at more...

Did you try that bootblock.s from the archive? It's already set up and displays some text. It is also set up so that you can test the code under AsmOne before writing to the bootblock.
