sorta offtopic: you dont need a window manager for X11 applications on Cygwin just run your X server in 'rootless' mode, i think Cygwin even supplies you a startmenu shortcut for it.

yup, there's some extensions for it; VMEM and GIGAMEM. You do however need a full Paged MMU for this to work (so practically a full 030/040/060).

One thing to keep in mind with USB devices on slow CPU's and polled USB controllers is how much of your precious CPU time they will eat.

Don't be surprised if just shoveling bits into a USB audio...
