Make sure you have connected the floppy power cable correctly - so 5V and 12V are the correct way. If not correct, then this can fry your floppy drive.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like your soldering job may have caused the issue. Did you make sure you had the plastic protector underneath the board in place?

I would also suggest getting a hard PCB...

I suspect it is the ribbon connector. Cleaning it with alcohol was not the best thing to do as alcohol is just too strong for it.

Reseating the connector often is also not good for it as these...

I used Win32DiskImager to write the dumped hard disk image on to the 1G CF card and it booted up OK in the Archos OverDrive.

So using a suitable IDE adapter and CF card, does work in the Archos...

JP2 looks like it has been modded to make any expansion ram as Chip ram, rather than Fast ram.
