Floppy disk Is this rare???

one one of my excursions through the internet to stave off sleep. i browsed to www.dizzyzone.org and noticed that dizzypanic(amiga) was on her request list, no problem i thought ill go to bttr and get the adf and forward it to her, however problem, it wasnt there.

Now i actually have dizzy panic for the amiga sitting nicely in its original packaging with manual etc.. is this a rarity? would it benifit the community if i ADFd it? if so mail me and let me know

Unless it is copy protected of course - in that case - you can contact CAPS for the software to dump it.

Actually, isn't this just that Dizzy version of Klax?

Hmm, I might have that somewhere... In a compilation though I suspect - though I doubt anybody would buy it on its own!

(did you? :)

i salvaged it from a box of "junk" that my brother was taking to a car boot sale.

its LIKE klax but not. i did BUY it for my c64 when it first came out, and when i took it home oooooooh the dissapointment. (i wasted Ģ2.99 on this piece of crap!?)

I thought that Kwik snax was a piece of crap as well. Spent much much time on the C64 version, but the Amiga and PC versions just sucked.

Hey Mozzy! Welcome aboard

if you've got an original a normal ADF proggie will not dump it. You'll need a tool to make extended ADFs, or Fiath's tool...

BTW Fiath, your tool runs on Amiga? i'm interested.

Well, it is not my tool. I didn't write it or anything. It was written by the founder of CAPS.

But yes, it runs on the Amiga.

However, due to the complexity involved in dumping copy protected disks you need an Amiga with KS 2.0 or higher, 2Mb of RAM (dumping over a PC2Amiga link) and a 68020+ CPU.

On the plus side, all you need to do it chuck in a disk and it will dump it - no need for specifying sync's or any other stuff.

On the minus side, you can't do anything with the dumped image until it is analysed (checked for correctness, modification since mastering, disk format reverse engineered) and finally converted to CAPS release format which will be writable back to disk (most images) or played in emulators.

This is for reasons specified on the site (rest assured there is no other way to do it), specifically:

why does this need to be done?

Big update coming soon!

@akira

Sometimes you can dump originals using standard ADF proggys.

Fiath: holy crap man, this sounds too nice! I'd LOVE to be able to write back an R-Type 2 original to my disk, since it got broken!

Have you guys got R-Type 2 already prepared for CAPSification? Please do that one for me, it's the only one I want

Thanks for the info about the tool too..

Drake: if they are not copyprotected, I presume (like Pirates, I dumped mine using TransADF)

It WILL be possible... Some later rather than sooner (long track protection) - but ALL eventually.

About your R-Type 2 - this is one of the primary reasons caps exists - to fix broken original disks with original & unmodified data.

I just looked for it (and indeed the first one) in the existing contributions, but the only one we have is a copy protected coverdisk demo. So if anybody out there wants to help Akira - just get in contact: contributions@caps-project.org, and I will send you the tools to dump it.

I am sure we will find it eventually!

I don't know much about (extended?) ADF dumping I am afraid - so I will leave that to one of the other guys here...

You certainly cannot dump it with the CAPS tool since it needs an 68020+ CPU, that the A600 does not have

Unless you know someone with an A1200?

Seeing as this thread has been revived after 8.5 years I thought I'd ask if this game is still needed?

I've found a 2 disk compilation cracked by Fairlight called 'Dizzy's Excellent Adventures' which has Dizzy Panic on it.

I can DMS both disks and upload to the EAB server if requested.

Thanks for the offer, but Dizzy Panic has been found in the meantime and the Fairlight cracked Dizzy's Excellent Adventures is already in TOSEC

If you could have a look at this list and see if you have any of them, that would be really great

Before I dive into that list do you/they require Original games or not? I still have quite a few original Amiga games and even more non-original games
