Cool Info needed about X-men: Ravages of the apocalypse

I am looking for info about X-men: Ravages of the apocalpyse. I have found out it was reviewed by CU Amiga in October 1998, scoring 82%.
I am looking for screenshots or scanned reviews of the game, not the ADF. Is the game a beat’em up or what? In 1997 I managed to get the beat’ em up X-men: Children of the Atom for PC. Maybe the PC and Amiga version are the same? Any info is appreciated.

It is a Total Conversion for Quake. Not very Total really, apart from the graphics. Which, due to some hokey storyline, are of the X-Men, or rather, evil clones of them. Or something.

AF also reviewed it, but were less kind, giving it 60%. "Only get this if you're a huge X-Men fan or a Quake completist".

I could scan the CU and AF reviews, if you like.

Eek A Quake mod?

I am a bit disappointed to read X-men is 'just' a Quake mod. I really hoped it would be a lovely 2D- Beat 'em-up like Children of the Atom.
Nevertheless, I would really appreciate it if you could scan in the AF review. I am very interested too see how the graphics are.

There were a couple of non-beat em up X-men games for the PC which I wish I had spent more time playing. Seemed to be a RPG of sorts with top down view like in the good old Ultima style games.

Lightbulb Madness in Murderworld

Hmm, I remember a game called X-men: Madness in Murderworld for C64. The game was released in 1988 and is a cross between beat’ em up and adventure. Apart from its good graphics (One can recognize the characters in 8-bit), the loading times are a real pain. I don’t think X-men: Madness in Murderworld is ever released on Amiga, though.

Too bad. There were 2 of those adventures on the PC. now that you mention it though there were beat em up sequences.

I was amazed to see Street fighter Alpha 2 had been converted to the SNES. Would've been nice to see that on the Amiga as well.

Hiyo! I've scanned the reviews of Amiga X-Men: Ravages of the Apocalypse. Just one thing: the files are quite large, even after compression. Should I bung em into the Zone anyhow? Or, does anybody know of a badass picture file compression utility, so I can squish them a bit more?

As long as they will fit in the Zone, I say leave them unsquished (I abhor jpeg/mpeg artifacting!) If you don't mind!

Oh, and thanks!

Yes, I think it could have been ported to the A1200.. if SSF2X made it through, why not Alpha?

BTW, no need for lame JPEG artifacting if you use PNG So I'd say you upload a nice compressed PNG!

Actually, the authors of the PNG format say that JPEG is a better format (visually).

I agree with Akira, SFZ could be easily ported to Amiga. The A1200 would handle it nicely, but even the A500 could do it.

Are you looking for X-Men games? I know others ones (Mainly for consoles) and could tell you about them. if you're interested.

Smile Thanks in advance...

@BlackCornFlake,
Personally I don't mind how big and what filesize the scanned picture is, just as long I can read all text in the review.

@Fissuras,
Thanks for pointing me to Home of the Underdogs. Somehow this site has slipped from my attention the past few months. Ravages of Apocalypse looks wonderful. It is a bit of a mystery to me why this generally unknown title has been converted to Amiga.

@Shatterhand,
I am not especially interested in X-Men games but more in games that have appeared the past six years on new generation Amigas. This is somehow a black period in my Amiga knowledge. Some titles like X-Men: Ravages of Apocalypse draw my attention to get more information about it.

I agree (well, maybe not about the A500 ). The problem was not with the hardware, but the state of the market. By 1996, pretty much every big publisher had abandoned the Amiga, taking the big money and big licences with them. Vicious circle: Fewer games being released, fewer people buying Amigas due to fewer games...

clickBoom and Hyperion rule, in my book, for defying this trend.

Edit: An indication of how tough things were: If you look at the AF review, you will notice that you can see the advert on the other side of the (very thin and cheap) paper!

Smile Wow

Thanks for putting the CU and AF reviews in The Zone.
Lovely to read these 'new' reviews in my favorite Amiga mags.
