New Game Released - Crazy Priest

http://gryretro.com/wp-content/uploa...zakonczony.jpg]

The game's development started in Spring 2015, when Sordan made decision to learn Amos programming language. I (aszu) have joined him, creating graphics and, consequently, this projected evolved into simple game. Shortly afterwards we were able to show first playable demo. At one point a musician (JMD) joined our team and at the Retrokomp/Loaderror 2015 party we have released first official playable demo.

Two years later, and at Retrokomp/Loaderror 2017 party, we have released full game! It has been long time but we have managed to finish it and the game was ranked 3rd in the Game Dev Compo.

There are two modes: single player, consisting of 16 levels and multiplayer (2 players only) with 8 additional levels.

Requirements:

68020+2MB RAM

Credits:

programming: Sordan
gfx : aszu
msx: JMD
Game is freeware.

you don't really expect anyone clicking on this suspicious link, do you?
is.gd - this looks like another tiny url hiding malware or similar to me...

DrBong 22 October 2017 23:06

@honx
Sure, it's a malware link! :rolleyes If you have nothing on-topic, useful or fun to contribute to this thread, then please feel free to look elsewhere......

you don't even explain that link it could lead anywhere...
how should anyone know without risking clicking on it?
sorry, but i'm not that trustingly.

Congrats @aszu + team, I know its easy to begin a project and a whole different thing to actually complete it. Well done!

Yes, you are very untrustworthy indeed :agree

DrBong is a well respected Amiga guru & HOL key member for well over a decade, not to mention an ex EAB moderator. Do you really think he would post a dodgy link on EAB?

What he did, as he's done in the past here and on HOL, is use a URL redirection site to hide the original URL :agree

...anyway, even if it was dodgy, do you not have adequate anti-virus / malware programs installed on your computer? :shocked

Thanks for the game :great

Question: What are the differences in the difficulty settings? Asking because I want to play all levels, and in some games you don't get to play all if you do not play on "hard" mode.

This would explain the size. It is ~1.4 mb which is much for a game like this.

aszu 23 October 2017 07:49

The difference in difficulty should be just the number of lives. Nothing else:) It is more difficult than it looks like, though... Sordan was flying through levels but I did struggle lol

Regarding the size, it’s few factors. It is not the music, but graphics, mainly. Please remember , it is Sordan’s first production ever and he was learning while programming it. That’s the reason while some things were done certain way and the exe file is so big. We had a long break and we did rush to finish it for RKLE so unfortunately we ran out of time to re-do some gfx and optimise the code itself .

Well, yes and no - the music sample alone is probably too short to inflate the exec that much. Yep, what aszu said plus there is this little snippet in the game's readme file:

Why executable file is that big?

- lame code :)
- graphics in EHB mode (64 colors)
- a lot of samples (500kb)
- track module (200kb)

EHB mode for in-game graphics - really? That would explain the large size of the IFF screenshots in the game archive. Can't say I've ever seen such large IFF files for 8-bit gfx in an Amiga game before.

@DamienD
Many thanks for your kind words, but it's probably best not to feed the trolls! ;) Anyway, hope you're enjoying a well-earnt holiday mate and getting lotsa sun! :cool

Hi there. I have explained this in the readme file included with the game.

"Why executable file is that big?
- lame code :)
- graphics in EHB mode (64 colors)
- a lot of samples (500kb)
- track module (200kb)"

So basically half of the game size are only samples and track module.

Thanks :)

Was in a hurry this morning so had no time to read the docs. I read them most times ;)

Lame code means = levels are stored as images and not tiles?

That`s exaclty how it is! All bobs, included 2x priests, all monsters, diamonds, keys, doors, fire, bombs etc. are Amos objects saved as *.abk in the executable file but all levels are ordinary images also packed to *.abk. Unfortunate *.abk compare with *.iff are only about 5-10% smaller so thats the second reason why exe file is that big.

If there will be another production from us in the future I will try to do it in a better way and for sure never more EHB mode which is much more slower in Amos. 32 colors are enough for this kind of the game and there is not much difference compare 32 colors with EHB mode.
