Civilization AGA German - WHDLOAD corrupt save game files?

1 Attachment(s)
Well... I started playing Civ AGA German version under WHDLoad (Emperor level). In the beginning everything worked OK. But approximately on about 1000 BC something went wrong. After ending my turn I saw very weird behaviour. You can see this attached. Moreover, I couldn't build roads, because all squares had railroads (!!!) I didn't developed it yet though. They were not visible, but when I go on this square, I saw "Eisenbahn" (RailRoad). I didn't care and continuing playing. But on about 140 BC game will definitely crash under WHDLOad. I tried to reinstall it (without WHDLoad) and copied save game files, but now I see red GURU after ending my turn on 140 BC. Now I desperately want to repair these save game file because I spent over 6 hours in the night to win this bloody Emperor level...
I played on my CD-32. Attached screenshots and savegame. Can somebody check this?

You should save more often then only one time in 6 hours. :) If the file format of save game is known it might be possible to repair it in reasonable time. If not, it would be better to spend another 6 hours to play it again but with more often saves.

No. I saved quite often. Civ saves automatically after each 1000 years, but I saved sometimes after 200 years. I haven't any idea about save game format for Amiga...

Civ1's save game format is only partially known. Not enough to repair a damaged save i'm afraid.
The fact it seems to fail at a fixed date such as 1000BC makes me think it might be a poorly cracked version. And if it is the case, things can only become worse as you play...

No, it's definitely not the cracked version. It's an original German version of Civilization AGA, which was found couple years ago on EAB and uploaded in TheZone. But WHDLoad remove copying protection self, so...

Normally this game does not need Whdload, it's directly HD installable. If you can get past the protection in the normal way, perhaps you can try this method.
I played Civi (ECS version) many times including emperor level and never had such a problem ; i know a few issues but nothing like this.
Have you successfully played other, easier games with this program ?

Did you tried the original Civ AGA version with/without http://aminet.net/game/patch/CivAGApatch.txt ?

No, I'm not sure it will work with German version. Mine is preinstalled with WHDLoad.

Then perhaps you can try an easier, test game, to see if it can be reproduced.

Well, I will modify my save game about 1000 BC, to see, or this error appears once again...

EDIT - I started new game. I played til 840 BC. Yesterday I loaded save game - the same situation. completely corrupted save game files...

So it's the game version you use that's buggy in some way.
It seems the next thing you have to do is to report that problem to whoever did that install.

Actually, I want to check, these version is really genuine. More years ago somebody uploaded in TheZone! German AGA version. I haven't any access to this version now, but I'm really curious - is the WHDLoad installer issue or the game itself?

Run it directly (without whdload) and you will know.

Meynaf, i think this game is maybe checksum protected. Because another guy, a french guy reported some years ago that his saves in civilization had a problem.

this should be investigated.

That's very possible, that's why i suggested to run it without whdload, i.e. unmodified.

OSH 10 July 2018 21:31

Well, I will! And report back!

So, in other words, it's cracked.

OSH 12 July 2018 10:55

I installed this version without WHDLoad and I have copy protection question. I saved and after loading everything is ok (for now)...
And German AGA version can be patched too to avoid screen fading!
