Removing A600 casing?

Hi,

I've tried twice to remove the casing from my A600, but it seems almost glued together, i can get the front part of it up, but the area near the floppy drive and on the other side with the bulge, i can't open. There's like a clip thingie, but i'm not sure how to undo it, i forced it a little but its just bending the plastic, and i was afraid it'd snap, so i stopped.

Looked on youtube to see if anyone had a... tutorial. :P But no luck.

Thanks.

Before starting, make sure you have taken the 4 screws out from under the A600 :-)

The attached (badly drawn) first image shows the locations of the A600 Case Clips in Red and in Blue where the LEDs connect.

To open the A600 case without damage I suggest unclipping the clip at the Floppy Drive side of the Amiga, you should be able to carefully release by putting your finger in the floppy slot.

Once this clips is undone you can carefully rotate the case lid anti clockwise a few degrees and this should realease the other clips without damage.

Next raise the front of the case lid slightly and you'll see the LED's connected to the motherboard, carefully unclip these before you lift the lid or else they'll snap :(

Now you can lift the lid, but be careful becuase the keyboard ribbon will be attached to the motherboard, but is is possible to lay the A600 as shown in the second image without detaching the ribbon.

Good luck, and be very careful.

Steve.

No probs, not really a nightmare once you get the hang of it, I broke a side clip and the LED's the first time though :guru

But I didn't have any guide ;)

Got the case off now... sort of, the LED cable doesn't seem to want to budge, i don't think this thing has been opened in a while, really dusty, and the floppy drive is quite wonky, seems almost as if it was replaced not all that long ago.... and not very well. Other than that, all i could tell is that its a June Bug rev 2D... :P

Just gonna go up and get those LED cables out.

EDIT: Got LED cable out, scared me when it suddenly popped out :P.

Blown some of the dust out, twas a bit filthy. Other than that its pretty ordinary, i think the FDD might be a little loose, would explain it being wonky.

Removed floppy drive and fitted it back in, straight this time. Put it back together, forgetting to put the HDD cradle back of course. Don't think i broke anything, we'll just have to wait and see.
