anyone willing to port a dos game to amigaos

there is this little fun game i used to play a lot in good old dos days:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErE8KmPGXZY
it came with a level editor for creating own levels too.
really want to play this on amiga! really, this would be an enrichment!
is someone able and willing to port it to amigaos? this would be nice!
and in additon to cursor movement, joystick support would be great!

You should give PC-Task a chance (free in Aminet), and give it a go.

Good luck.

hipoonios 13 February 2017 20:33

Not really what you ask for, but recommend to check out these games. The are all very good and similar to the game you link to.

Touch'n Go
Jump Em
Challenge of the Matrix

Where is the source code for it?

unfortunately, no source code available as i'm aware of. :(
probably reverse engineering or coding from scratch required. :(

LuMan 13 February 2017 22:22

It looks like a fairly straightforward puzzle game that could be put together in AMOS or Blitz without too much trouble. Other than level design, writing it from scratch should be relatively easy.

Any coders willing to give it a go?? :)

honx 14 February 2017 01:21

i could provide levels, that's no problem. i made TONS of levels (400+) in the past.
either a level editor so i do them again, or compatible to .pod files from dos game.
can upload all the levels if you need them. should be ~20 files with 20 levels each.
original pod restricted to 20 levels per set, so new set for next 20 levels required.
the grid of the playfield is 12x12 as far i remember. i'll have a look tomorrow.

Years ago (late 90s? Early 2000s?) someone had ported the C64 game "Sensitive" onto the Amiga. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lyvC6yf9V8 (C64 video). I believe the port was shareware/pd/freeware/whatever. I want to say it also came with a level editor but I'm not entirely certain.

If someone is able to find it, it might be what's wanted. I would've either found it on Aminet, an Amiga Format CD or a CU Amiga CD.
Sorry I can't provide more info. Its name escapes me. It might've been as simple as AmiSensitive, or something entirely different.

MickGyver 14 February 2017 06:43

Does this show the conversion Frankie is talking about? Or is that a different POD?

EDIT: Looks like it's another game, never mind...

Thorham 14 February 2017 09:31

This game is still for sale: http://www.arkangles.com/pod/index.html

Porting a DOS game directly, though in theory possible, is a daunting task. There are a few titles i'd like to do myself but it's too gruesome.

For this kind of game, redoing it from scratch seems the best solution if emulators fail.

Indeed. Games like this are trivial to implement.

Think this might be the sort of game to cut your teeth learning to program with. Knocking this up in Amos or Blitz should be a great learning experience

honx 14 February 2017 14:33

i wanted to try pc-task but within emulation i need some kind of image of ms dos disks.
i only have phyical disks of ms dos but no floppydrive to read them. this is where i fail.
so no emulation solution for me...

as to pod, as mentioned correctly, playfield grid is 12x12 tiles.
there are different types of pieces:
red square - permanent. one red piece is start position of level, any red can be the end.
purple square - hyperspace - warps you to another red sqare in top half of screen.
purple square disappears after warp.
blue piece - needs 1 pass to remove
green piece - needs 2 passes to remove
cyan piece - needs 3 passes to remove
one of the blue/green/cyan pieces can turn white occasionally, which is a level skip.
all blue/green/cyan pieces have to be gone in order to successfully complete the level.
except you catch white one, then all remaining pieces are somehow counted to score.

some time ago i also seen a beta of pod2 there were also dark green pieces which needed 4 passes.
then there were pulsating pieces, changing their color between dark grey and orange (blinking).
while orange they were solid and pod (player) could stand on, while grey they were void, player falling off.
and then there were yellow ones, warp pieces similar to the purple ones, but these were bidirectional.
there were two yellow pieces in a level, for warping to second yellow piece and warp back to first one.
these would be nice addition!

this game is a ms dos game and i asked about porting it to amigaos.
if that's not what you asked then i didn't understand your question...

Daedalus 14 February 2017 15:55

I think he means system-friendly or not.

Galahad/FLT 14 February 2017 16:02

Would be good for a competition

Asman 14 February 2017 16:14

@Galahad/FLT
Sorry I don't get it. Can you explain a bit more. You mean about two player mode where players compete who first finish level ?

@Deadalus
Yep I thought about that.

#honx
Sorry if my post was unclear for you.

do you mean workbench integration, so it can be played on workbench?
would be nice and with an option to switch fullscreen/fullwindow.
but not necessary. if it's easier to do something ndos like, it's okay.
