moderated posts for newcomers

currently there is really a huge plague of advertising bots going on in amiga scene sub forum.
to avoid this nonsense i would suggest moderation/activation of posts for newcomers <10 posts.

Or simply autoban someone that uses 'ny' as a location, job done.

but this only works as long they don't change location...

chip 21 January 2018 17:25

Why this happens ?
I never used the links of these strange threads .... what they are ?

It's a good point Sir Galahad.

...every single one of these spam threads that have been plaguing EAB for the past month or so have these in common:

a) threads always posted in the same "Amiga.scene" section.
b) spammer sets location to "ny".
c) spammer sets EAB supporter = yes.

They never have so far ;)

DamienD 21 January 2018 18:07

...and another one dealt with before he / she / it could even published the thread:

You could add a catchphrase, or some sort of robot testing doodad to the register link?

Akira 22 January 2018 18:12

The registration process needs a proper CAPTCHA to allow you to sign in. The current system obviously does not work anymore. RCK needs to build it into it.

There's already a question you must answer to register, obviously newer bots have figured this out.

I could put "ny" as my location and get banned, that sounds bad.

Also I don't think the moderators need any more work on their shoulders.

Devlin 22 January 2018 18:40

Add a user-invisible(but not bot invisible) field to the register form and block posts from any "user" that fills that invisible field out.

https://www.sitepoint.com/easy-spam-...n-form-fields/

simple solution above

Akira 22 January 2018 20:42

Nice solution!

honx 24 January 2018 21:49

we really need a handle against that scum.

chip 24 January 2018 21:52

Sorry if i repeat, but i really don't understand the reason of this :(

DamienD 24 January 2018 21:55

Guys, we are on it; but as already mentioned, it has been a plague for a good month :agree

Seriously, when's the last time threads by spammers lasted longer than 1 hour on EAB? Overnight GMT, yes though.

Just keep reporting as you do though; it's the first section I check and I'm sure other GMs also ;)

Saying all that, there needs to be a better solution... where's bossman RCK?

DamienD 24 January 2018 22:17

...and another one cleaned up after :sad

At least it had a cool name: sexifino

honx 28 January 2018 22:21

no longer limited to amiga scene sub forum, scum is spreading...

DamienD 28 January 2018 22:23

Yeah I noticed :sad

...it's now spreading into the "News" and "support.WinUAE" sections.

ma693541 29 January 2018 03:59

Another bot in Amiga Scene wohey@

honx 16 February 2018 18:27

why is there a 60 seconds limit for reporting spam posts?
i totally understand that limit regarding normal posts in forums.
but why is there a limit for reporting something to moderators?

Akira 16 February 2018 18:31

Any and all things you can click on and send data with can be abused, so they all have a delay.
A bot could also "report-bomb" using that link.
