Readers wives

So what do your wives / partners / girlfriends think of your retro hobby ?

Do they enjoy the scene as much as you ? ...or - ( Like my wife does ) think you are a sad weirdo who needs to get a grip and live in the present and stop playing with old crappy C64`s and Amiga thingies !!

My wife does not get it - we have a Wii, Xbox and Ps3 in our house, but I am only interested in messing with my Retro stuff.
I have converted the garage into a play room for the kids ( yeah right ! ) and have my commodores, gamecube and a speccy 128 set up on a nice big TV, I dissapear into there whenever I can, but I just can`t get the wife in there - no way ! :laughing By the way I`m 38 and grew up with commodores.

I call it a passion - my wife calls it a mid-life crisis !!

s2325 04 March 2009 16:42

'silly small games'
'you need me to arrange your room'
'don't play games at night'
...
She is disabled after accident so I'm not angry for her words.

@daznic

My friend, from the thread title I was expecting some,,, well piccies you know :laughing

TC ;)

Unfortunately the latter (sad weirdo). I'm also a huge Doctor Who fan which, as far as she is concerned, makes me twice as sad! Due to the birth of our first daughter five months ago, and the potential arrival of a second sometime in the next couple of years, I can no longer have my A1200 and CD32 permanently setup in the house, I've had to put them away in their boxes. :crying

I was also trying to explain to one of my friends the other day why I have spent about £800 building a super-A1200. His response was that I could got a good spec PC for the same money. I don't think he got the point! :bash

And, if my wife is reading this, I put too many zeros in that last figure, I actually only spent £80 on my A1200. ;)

Steve.

my wife hasn't met me yet. So i enjoy Amiga full time :D

daznic 04 March 2009 16:55

Forgot to say, I am also a Dr who, Star trek and Terry pratchett fan, so in her eyes that makes me much sadder !!
thought the title "Readers wives" would get attention !!

Mrs Mushi doesn't really have an opinion on my hobbies. She is quite happy for me to do whatever I want as long as it makes me happy. I have my own "office" (read: playroom) and so my mess doesn't disturb her or make the rest of the house untidy. I even have an A2000 in our bedroom under the TV ;)

In fact she encouraged me recently to buy a NeoGeo because "it would make me happy". So I feel that's quite a good result really :)

dlfrsilver 04 March 2009 18:14

My own girl ? :D uh well ahem...

'Denis, my goodness !!! Even Wallmart has not the games stock you have in your room !!!'
'Yes for sure darling, many years of ebay are contemplating you from where you are'
and she stops, and go reading a book.

Oh well, as much as i take care of her, it's ok ;)

Zetr0 04 March 2009 18:33

Mrs Zetr0 is understanding, and enjoys to mock me on my Amiga / retr0 gaming addiction.

However to be fair she loves her retr0 arcadse games... AND i so do mock her addiction to popcap and big fish games....

its as bad as my Amiga addiction, just takes up a little less room lol!

Shoonay 04 March 2009 18:46

Readers wives? Never heard of it. Is it better then Readers Digest? :blased

Skope 04 March 2009 18:48

In fact it was my girlfriend that encouraged me to buy an Amiga again. I've been without one since 2001 and bought a refurbished 1200 from amigakit in august. She came along for the Up Rough 10 year anniversary party and was completely blown away by the Amiganess, as I hadn't really bothered to speak about it with her before. Afterall Amiga wasn't in my life anymore. She says she gets goosebumps from AHX music, and got totally bananas over Goto 80's live set. ;)

You're a lucky man Musashi ;) Well, since my relationship with Mrs TCD isn't 'full time' (we don't live together), she doesn't know how bad it really is ;) She knows that I play some computer games 'once in a while' :D

What she doesn't know, is that this so called 'once in a while' time equals 95% of your free time. amirite? ;)

DoogUK 04 March 2009 18:57

Haven't got one so it's all hassle free playtime :D

Dizzy 04 March 2009 19:04

my wife like retro....jewelry :lol

she hate all the garbage i collect. but as long as I keep it in my own room she dont care ;)

humble worm 04 March 2009 19:16

my situation is similar to musashi's, there is full understanding, maybe because my wife is a gamer herself (although not "retro" - she prefers newer stuff for PC).
