Odyssey - 100% working with trainer

Heya guys,

Currently I'm using this version in my collection:

... Odyssey (1995)(Audiogenic)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Flashtro].adf
... Odyssey (1995)(Audiogenic)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Flashtro].adf

Rob claims the following:

https://i.ibb.co/WsWfJzj/Odyssey-199...ashtro-001.png

...which obviously I can't verify as I've never tried to finish every cracked version available, so no idea if they fail at some point or not.

So firstly; is there actually an issue with this set?

... Odyssey (1995)(Audiogenic)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr LSD][t +6 PDY].adf
... Odyssey (1995)(Audiogenic)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr LSD].adf

If so, then probably a question to the Flashtro guys; but also too any other coder / cracker ;)

Would it be possible to create a 100% working version and also add Alpha One's nice trainer?

I'm sure I finished this game long time ago using the prodigy trainer because without trainer is impossible and worked fine
I don't know why flashtro says other versions are not cracked correctly

you can try to finish this game to confirm, is a very long game btw ,I will not do it again

Hence the reason for this thread; I don't really know why Rob claims all over versions are not cracked properly?

From searching EAB; I see no "problem" threads for this game...

Nah, way too long / complex to try and finish this myself... yes, the game is impossible without a trainer.

I was really looking for verification that the "cracked LSD / trained PDY" version is working 100% from start to finish.

Agilent 22 April 2019 21:27

Not 100% sure, but I think there were some Copylock routine(s) hiding in some of the data files, other groups missed. I am sure, some skilled people with UAE running (or even real Miggy), can find out.

Galahad/FLT 23 April 2019 00:00

In all honesty, it being cracked by LSD would instantly give me cause for concern.

The Prodigy trainer might well obscure the cracking errors.

dlfrsilver 23 April 2019 12:22

i remember that I sent to Rob at the time my original disk images from my retail copy.

He discovered that the copylock was not correctly patched, so he has done a deprotected version from mine.

Unfortunately the game itself is buggy and crashes time-to-time even in its original (non-cracked) form. Confirmed by the authors, due to the time press the game was not tested properly and the buggy version was released.

So better play this in emulation with save states.

ChrisMullender - 2005-03-02

I'm Chris Mullender, one of the authours of Odyssey. I obviously can't comment on the quality of the game itself, but it's very gratifying to see that people still remember it. Reece and I spent ages writing it - it slowly evolved from a sideways scrolling 2-week Mario clone to Odyssey.
I did the programming and Reece did all the art & audio. Has anyone got it to fully work under WinUAE? The player sprites keep corrupting after you transform into the Rock Monster - very sad... I suppose I should debug it really...

DamienD 23 April 2019 15:16

Hmmm, maybe it's safest to just use the WHDLoad version then.

DamienD 23 April 2019 19:30

Just tested the WHDLoad slave.

The trainer is a funny one i.e. if you have "Infinite Energy" set and bump into an enemy, they then disappear as it they've been killed :blased

So the current options are as follows:
  • Use the trained .ADFs "[cr LSD][t +6 PDY]" which are possibly not cracked properly due to not all copylocks being found.
  • Use the Flashtro / Rob .ADFs which don't have a trainer.
  • Use the WHDLoad version which has a trainer but the "Infinite Energy" option is buggy.

ross 24 April 2019 16:57

More info after inspection the available ADF/IPFs:
- SPS 0897 seems an early version;
- SPS 0195 seems an intermediate patched version;
- SPS 2894 is based on 0195 but with a little fix for Open() (MODE_NEWFILE used instead of MODE_READWRITE on save);
- LSD (a bit hasty..) crack was done on SPS 0897 (not checked if PDY trainer 'fixed' it), so in an old version;
- ROB crack is well done and based on SPS 2894;
- I played one of the IPFs (I don't remember which one ...) and there was a seldom sprite bug entering the caves (only in OCS due to the classic problem of proximity to the bitplane fetch for DDFSTRT<$38) but in any case can be patched, if not already done in SPS 0195/2894, manually zeroing SPRxDATB.

:)

DamienD 24 April 2019 17:36

Interesting; thanks for the analysis / information ross ;)

So now what we need, disk version wise, is a trainer added to the Rob / Flashtro crack.

Alpha One did the trainer for the "[cr LSD][t +6 PDY]" disk, I wonder if he's up for this? Sent him a PM ;)

dlfrsilver 25 April 2019 16:09

I ll post tonight my un dumped version hehehe.

ross 26 April 2019 18:47

Further information:
- all versions I've tried (IPF/ADF/WHDLoad) contain the annoying OCS sprite bug;
- the Outlaw one disk version do not work in KS1.x, have some problem in 1MB configuration and is based on old version;
- the WHDLoad version "Infinite Energy" bug is due to bad offset applyed (I can contact JOTD to fix it), also it lack some COLOR bit fix;
- the PDY trainer conflict with in game keys.
This game seems a bit unfortunate ..

But I've made a patched version (based on Rob crack) that fixes the OCS bug and keep track (but does not apply) the lifes/energy trainer.
As a bonus is one-disked and there is space for a new trainer :)
(not completely sure it works because it's hard to handle the compression in 1MB config, beta tester needed ..)

Alpha One can rely on my version if he want and I would be very pleased.

Upped to the Zone!, but remember, it's a test version.
(if you want a trained version contact me)

Hehe. Think you are more, actually. You seem to be very skilled at coding, maybe game coder also, respect.
