A1200.net has done exceedingly well via crowd funding and more especially for the Amiga community these last few years as not only did they smash a Kickstarter success for their new Amiga 1200 case Kickstarter, but more recently they have also pushed towards a keycap Kickstarter success as well. Thankfully after many concerns about the Amiga cases not appearing, due a number of delays and the bad feelings regarding Kickstarters, we are happy to say that not only are they being shipped to backers, but we have one in our hands for an exclusive review!

I didn't know the coloured cases were actually spray painted.

They're not - they're injection molded plastic...

Neil79 28 December 2016 13:41

You did read the update before you posted right?

The Gold/Silver/Bronze ones are coated afaik, although not spray painted.

EugeneNine 28 December 2016 16:22

Wonder if they will do other cases like an A500?

Amiga1992 28 December 2016 16:32

Well obviously the modifications people actually wanted brought differences to how the case looks. You can't have the cake and eat it too. Also I would think this is more noticeable on the colored models, "classic vanilla" should be better.

What sucks is about fitting it back together. Granted, no one should be using an HD caddy nowadays :D but it would be good if it still fitted, as the original.

Thanks for the review!

Hi Akira,

Well actually that's weird because on my end the HD caddy fits. (@ 14:30)
So this is an issue we'll have to cover with Neil.

Have a look to my review video where you can see the caddy fits in closed case:

Did the reviewer use the original caddy?

Getting the money raised for the tooling to make these A1200 cases was not easy.. I'm not holding my breath on this happening for an A500 case.

Can we cut and paste back an A1200 case to make an A600 case, though? :D :D :D :lol:lol:lol

I think the real question is how does putting an a1200 PCB into the new case compare to putting it into a different original a1200 case. E.g. the top shell oft my a600 hardly fits its bottom shell and the top shell has far more yellowing which makes me suspect that somebody swapped the top shell of two a600s which just don't fit.

Hi FOL, Hi Guys,

Thanks for the update on the caddy issue.
It seems in the Team we only had two different models out of the many we tried and I do personally have two different caddies as well.
Then all we've met were matching the two we had...

There is no other explanations i could think of right now.

So it seems that those of you who have the higher caddy model will not be able to use it with our case and we're sorry about that.

I'll personally see with engineers what may/can be done to fix that issue on next batch of cases.
If not i guess we'll need to think of some sort of Enhanced "HD/SD adapter/CD Adapter/SSD" caddies anytime for easing installation of modern mass storage devices having a lower height.

Cheers

You know, you can just design one that people can 3D print and give it out there for free. I think that would be the best solution for those who seem to still need to use a caddy.
