Original Workbench (and related) disks preservation - Checksums required
Hi,
I'd like to take over this excellent work by Supamax that took the initiative to try to inventory the unaltered Workbench disks for the Amiga on this thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=41971&page=9. I think this is really important since these disks were often modified and/or altered and having them well categorized in Tosec can be a great help in securing the original checksums for these disks. So here we are. I did set up a little page with all the findings on the post mentionned earlier by linking *one* CRC32 to *one* part number, adding some of my own dumps and some other p/ns not mentionned (such as norwegian Workbench disks). I did my best keeping track of all the dumps that were made as well as their original contributors, but if you notice anything wrong, please feel free to make your suggestions on this post. At this stage, only CRC32s from your dumps are required (I'm not asking for your ADF dumps whatsoever) to make this list as accurate as possible to help the TOSEC guys to have a maximum [!] verified marks. In order to get this list fully green, anyone who owns an original (preferably unmodified) WorkBench set of floppies is invited to post here its floppies' CRC32 checksums : - Dumps must been made in .adf format. - At least two identicals CRC32 for a given disk identified by its P/N are required to update the disk status to the green "Confirmed" status but more matches are welcome. - Every update should be made on this particular thread to keep track of every contribution I'll update the dedicated page as often as possible here : amiga.workbench.free.fr So here's the deal. Feel free to post your findings, checksums for a given disk p/n and I'll update the chart. Two or more identical CRC32s provided for one disk will grant the status "verified" to the particular disk. I dumped a batch of WB disks and wrote down their part numbers here: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=983063&postcount=36

Thanks for the update. I updated the table with the checksums you provided. Thanks for your help ! http://amiga.workbench.free.fr

Thanks for going through those. Did you check out the Kickstart disks? I haven't been able to try those out myself.
|
Well thank YOU for so many contributions. Your dumps were very helpful in tracking unaltered disks. You are quite right : Kickstarts disks are part of system disks so they should be included in the chart.
As a matter of fact, EAB member rhester72 did something similar back in 2010 here https://web.archive.org/web/20100429...kickstart.html Your dumps and the work made by rhester72 sounds like a good starting point to me :) Update : Kickstarts added on bottom of page : http://amiga.workbench.free.fr/ MrDolby |
@MrDolby
This page is outdated: https://web.archive.org/web/20100429...kickstart.html Cloanto now updates this list: https://cloanto.com/amiga/roms/ |
You are quite right Crashdisk, I thought there was a kickstart disk list somewhere with CRCs

I've also dumped 380921-05 Lär-Dig-Själv. It's on Mai's FTP.
|
Thanks for the tip idrougge. I updated the database as follows :
380921-05 - Lär-Dig-Själv -> Two disks have the same CRC32 421E064A -> Marked as verified 380921-05 - The Very First -> Checksum different -> Marked as candidate, waiting for another dump As a side note, I upped all my dumps to Mai's FTP. @idrougge : also uploaded the unmodified Workbench 3.1 rev. 40.16 install disk (DE) which was part of the set you uploaded yesterday. I will receive quite a big lot of workbench disks to dump next week, let's hope we will finally find an unmodified install 3.0 disk !! |
Here is a new batch of workbench disks I dumped. The file dates looks untouched on the Workbench 2.1. Possibly good dump, marked as candidate
Workbench 2.1 Workbench v2.1 rev 38.35 (1992-07-30)(Commodore)(A600)(EN/FR/DE)[370155-01] -> CRC32:811CB955 Extras v2.1 rev 38.35 (1992-07-30)(Commodore)(A600)(Intl)[370159-01] -> CRC32:4A26E812 Locale v2.1 rev 38.35 (1992-07-30)(Commodore)(A600)(Intl)[370172-01] -> CRC32:5EAE8E5D Fonts v2.1 rev 38.35 (1992-07-30)(Commodore)(A600)(Intl)[370160-01] -> CRC32:D93C40A1 I dumped an install disk for A600. My dump matches the CRC32 provided by Prowler and MAME XML. Marked as good : SCSI Install Disk v2.05 rev 37.71 (09-01-1992)(Commodore)(A600-A600HD)(Intl)[367826-03][!] -> CRC32: C285C0AA Updated database @ http://amiga.workbench.free.fr Uploaded files on MAI's FTP |
Today I dumped the Workbench 3.1 released by Commodore in 1994 available as a big box (http://www.ntrautanen.fi/computers/c...miga/os_31.jpg).
The CRCs matches the set already provided by idrougge submitted as a DE version (which was an ESCOM set without part number on the floppies) : Workbench v3.1 rev 40.42 (06-07-1994)(Commodore)(ALL)(M10)[370300-98] -> CRC32: D233484C Extras v3.1 rev 40.42 (06-07-1994)(Commodore)(ALL)(M10)[370301-98] -> CRC32: 32F55078 Storage v3.1 rev 40.42 (06-07-1994)(Commodore)(ALL)(M10)[370299-99] -> CRC32: 4BD38EF4 Locale v3.1 rev 40.42 (06-07-1994)(Commodore)(ALL)(M10)[370300-99] -> CRC32: E0E5DE81 Fonts v3.1 rev 40.42 (06-07-1994)(Commodore)(ALL)(M10)[370301-99] -> CRC32: 63470DE4 The install disk of this set was modified and therefore not included in this list. So we have now two complete/verified set for Amiga OS 3.1 to include in TOSEC : 1. the verified 3.1 set already included in TOSEC is mistakenly labelled as Commodore. It should be changed to ESCOM. This set is from 1995. 2. the dump verified by idrougge, Cloanto and myself which is the original Commodore release from 1994. Will update the list soon. |
Upped two A4000T Workbench sets on the FTP. These are not my dumps so they are unverified. Note these are 3'5HD floppy dumps (1760kb).
|
Was the A4000T software delivered on HD floppies?
|
Quote:
If you look at the adfs I uploaded, there is a startup sequence that starts with : $VER: Startup-Sequence_HD 40.4 (31.8.93) ; Startup-Sequence for high-density floppies whereas the Startup Sequence for the 6 disk set starts with ; $VER: Startup-Sequence_LD 40.3 (31.8.93) ; Startup-Sequence for low-density floppies I do not have access myself to these sets, but I included these for reference and future confirmation. These sets were probably shipped with the 200ish A4000T made by Commodore. |
That's extremely rare. Also fascinating that they had those HD floppies prepared a whole year before the launch of the 4000T.

Updated the list with the following dumps :

Bought this sealed Workbench 3.0 complete set from ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/201639914973).
We will finally discover which CRC32 is the unaltered one for the install WB 3.0 install disk :) \o/ |
