I have got that "I should sell up" feeling

Space at home has suddenly become very tight! My study has been turned into a kids playroom and my A1200T and A1200D are under pressure to be boxed.

I am very very very tempted to sell the lot.... I know I dont want to, but equally if they go in a box then it will be years before I get space to set them up again...

What to do!!!??

BippyM 25 May 2008 17:27

Set one up, box the other..

There is always room, and if you sell them you'll just feel guilty, and dirty ;)

Charlie 25 May 2008 18:18

Give them to me! :D

Ok, joking...
...You know if you sell-up in a few months you're going to be spending good money trying to replace them - Probably at a thumping loss!

Space is never at that much of a premium - some creative thought required...
...in the meantime, box one of them as bippym suggests to show willing & if you don't miss it that's the one to out.

musashi5150 25 May 2008 18:21

You could always sell your children instead? :D

laffer 25 May 2008 18:30

I think you should keep them.

Flog everything apart from your best / favourite one? That's what I plan to do soon. Probably just keep the CD32 + SX32.

Keeping boxes for years without opening them, and hundreds of pounds of top end Amiga hardware... just because you can seems a waste of money and (more importantly to me) space.

BippyM 25 May 2008 18:48

I plan to get rid of everything except 1 a500, 1 a500+, 1a600 and the 1200.. oh and I plan to buy a cd32

(Binox it's still all yours mate if ya want it!)

Mick_AKA 25 May 2008 21:00

I'm having exactly the same issues, space and money both being a problem at the moment and I have Amiga bits coming out of my arse!

Have a nice modded 1200 with 1230 MkIV and Subway USB, keep looking at that eBay shortcut in my browser...

Sad state of affairs :(

DDNI 26 May 2008 00:44

Right I am going to part out the A1200D.

First to go will be the the DCE flicker magic. It is an internal Scandoubler and Flickerfixer.
Also available is an Eyetech BMON video switcher (AGA/RTG)

Am going to list them on Amibay for 5 days, then ebay.

Hobbe 26 May 2008 01:44

How big is the playroom? maybe you can put up a small cubicle for a desk and your amiga then let the kids have the remaining space? my daughter spent nearly 4 hours playing with a broken pen inside a moldy cavendish cardbox from a decade ago, they don't need that much to be happy :)

blade002 26 May 2008 10:28

I don't think i could ever sell my A1200, not unless its to help pay for my headstone when i am 80 !! ..lol.

Hobbe 26 May 2008 11:25

Or to help pay for an A3000+, I'd even sell my soul if I had one :)

Amiga1992 26 May 2008 12:46

You should stick to the 1200D if space is an issue, makes no sense keeping an ugly big tower case.

That is very true... But parting with my my BPPC/060 tower that would be soooo hard!

StarEye 26 May 2008 14:03

There comes a time when you have to consider need before want. Towered Amiga isn't really any use today, unless you use it as a main machine. A desktop Amiga 1200 is all I need, with as little extra equipment as possible - apart from internal upgrades (like an accelerator card or a PCMCIA). It takes up very little space. I will always have at least one functional Amiga easily accessable, but I've had to calm down a bit with extras. I prefer to save my extra space for original Amiga games than extra hardware.

It can be tough on your nostalgia, but it's actually not too difficult to shrink your collections to a bare minimum - only keeping what you actually need and will use. Just don't sell off so much that you'll regret. Sell until you have the space you need... then when you need more space, sell some more.

Wise words Stareye, an A1200D would be the most sensible option...

So who is in the market for an A1200T PPC Monster?

Galaxy 26 May 2008 22:55

Personally, i would keep both (or get rid of both). One would go in the cupboard as spare parts for the other as 1200s don't seem to be the most reliable of machines at their current age.

Macca 27 May 2008 08:57

I'm in the market for the PPC bit... I could always store it for you... :D

Turn the A1200-T on the side to make a desktop? That would be the easiest way - or dependant upon your hardware you could put it in place next to your main PC and then use some kind of KVM for it (again if you have a scandoubler or another device cable of outputting to your monitor).

If you wanted a proper desktop then that's going to cost additional money which may be frowned upon by the Mrs!

I had the very same problem... Child number 2's imminent arrival last year meant I was losing my "office", or junk hole.

Solution? Look up, good sir... Strengthened ceiling joists, two veluxes, a load of boarding, plastering and shelving and I have a much, much larger junk hole...

The loft is now my domain :D
