Brand new Amiga 500

Hi all,

I stumbled across this from our "local" Auction site in New Zealand, (our version of EBay), it's out of my price range, but thought some of you might find it interesting. Not often you come across a brand new Amiga 500!

From the ad:

A real collectors item. I have had stored it in a cool dry place since 1986.
This makes it even more valuable, since the A500 wasn't released till 1987!

Here is a BRAND NEW, never opened Commodore AMIGA 500 Deluxe.

This has the extra 512KB RAM installed.
According to this site : http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/a500deluxe.html the 'Deluxe' version didn't come with a preinstalled 512kb expansion, so how can it be in there if it was never opened?

Predseda 14 April 2009 08:44

There is the photo, that tells 512kB memory upgrade already installed. Just on the box.

TCD 14 April 2009 08:45

For 500$ I expect the package to be never opened ;)

Predseda 14 April 2009 08:52

Sorry, I edited my post, maybe now it looks weird.

TCD 14 April 2009 09:00

Oh, okay now I see. Now that makes it an interesting collector piece again :)

EreWeGo 14 April 2009 12:22

hehehe, didn't mean to start an "Amiga-Gate" here - just thought it was interesting! :D

Yeah, I'm guessing the seller has his dates confused, pretty understandable though, we are talking over 20 years ago. As far as the "pre-installed" extra memory, definitely possible that a New Zealand/Australia bundle was released different than for you Northern folk...

The thing I'm scratching my head to understand is why the hell he bought it in the first place, and how did he resist the temptation to use the damn thing?!?
:)

well this kind of stuff usually comes from hoardes of collectors who pass away. then a relative/proxy does the sale, unfamiliar with the item, which also explains the misinformation.

rkauer 14 April 2009 23:02

And probably the buyer will receive the buggiest Amiga ever made (rev 3 board) and a totally ruined A501 with battery fuzz all around.:mad

FOL 15 April 2009 20:54

Im sorry, you cant tell me he has never opened it.

Think about it, he hardly spent hundreds on a Home computer only to say "I know, Ill store it for 20 years".

If he did, then he is a complete nut case.

PWLM 16 April 2009 12:40

I know why he wants to get rid of it. No sheep included...

Cheap shot, sorry it's a Oz/NZ thing. The 3rd photo I think shows the thumb opening tab to be feathered so I'm thinking the box has at least been opened, and who would open a box without checking out the contents?

It's not D**my's Australian cousin, is it? That descriptive style seems really familiar.....

Whot ?!?!?!

AmigaFriend 17 April 2009 12:39

All have already been said. We even have sheep around. :)

Yoto 17 April 2009 14:49

I also have a few bottles of red wine with 20,40 and 50 years...never opened...i will Ebay them too. :lol

Now really, rkauer is right, the battery is probably dead and leaking, and maybe the capacitators are leaking too due to lack of use.
Its probably a big box of junk now...:(
