Amiga->Game Boy Advance Conversions

Righty. Next month I will be purchasing the totally awesome looking Game Boy Advance SP. The Platinum one seems to be the only decent looking version. I'll have to start saving up though so I hope I'll be able to get one when it is launched here in the UK next month I think. Anyway I want to buy as many handheld "Amiga" conversions as I can get my grubby little mits on. I'd like you guys to list as many GBA Amiga conversions as you can think of and also provide a link to the review of that game on the superb Pocket IGN website: http://pocket.ign.com so I can see what it's like. I'd also like to see GBA games that resemble old Amiga classics in some way.

The first game in the list will be the excellent looking Soccer Kid:

Theres a rather nice conversion of Speedball2 on the GBA. It was converted by the now dead Crawfish and this game seems to be quite rare (Ive only ever seen one copy and snapped it up straight away) so it may be hard to find.

This isnt a pocket.ign review, its a review by me. :D

Looks like you can buy both of these on Amazon. Here are the links:

Incedentally I've been having a look at this game. It almost resembles Turrican. It's the fantastic Metroid Fusion:

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/377/377060p1.html

This has to be one of the best games I've seen for the GBA so far. It's outstanding. I'll definitely be purchasing this when I get my GBA SP. :)

Damn. I found this piece of news on Pocket IGN:

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/359/359498p1.html

It looks like Crawfish were also developing coversions of some Bitmap Brothers classics:

Gods
Magic Pockets
The Chaos Engine

I really hope these projects get picked up by another developer. :(

Wings

I've found another Amiga conversion. The superb looking Wings:

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/385/385589p1.html

Developed by Crawfish & Cinemaware.

Dastardly 17 February 2003 20:35

Theres also a GBA game featuring a mix of the tables from both Pinball Dreams and Fantasies although i dont know what its called.

Defender of the Crown

Yet another Amiga conversion. This time it's that great Cinemaware Amiga classic Defender of the Crown:

Also developed by Crawfish & Cinemaware.

Steve 17 February 2003 20:51

The Three Stooges

Here is the final Cinemaware/Crawfish collaboration. It's the quite old Amiga game The Three Stooges:

Developed by Crawfish & Cinemaware.

The game you mention might be Hardcore Pinball. I don't think it's been released yet.

Each of these tables are GBA recreations of pinball tables released on the Amiga several years ago.

Eye of the Beholder

This list of Amiga->GBA conversions is growing quite rapidly. :)

The great Amiga classic Eye of the Beholder has also been released for the GBA. Although this conversion looks quite different to the Amiga version. It's a little too cartoony and colourful for my liking:

Despite Pocket IGN not actually having a review of the game you can buy it from Amazon. Here is the link:

I'm unable to find this on Pocket IGN. It could be good though.

The next Amiga game for the GBA is the classic Desert Strike. It's now known as Desert Strike Advance:

Amiga1992 25 February 2003 20:20

IK+ is already out for the GBA and it's absolute GARBAGE.
Check out my "GBA awful developments" thread :D

Belgarath 25 February 2003 20:40

actually the game you are referring about is International Karate Advanced, not to be confused with IK+

IK+ for gba is a complete port of the amiga version!

Daz 25 February 2003 21:08

Yes Akira you got that one wrong - This is a straight port of IK+, with a couple of sound bugs i've found - besides that its snap!

Amiga1992 25 February 2003 21:23

!

Why did they release that IK Advance piece of poop then?

Daz 25 February 2003 21:33

No idea but I played it (well tried to) and yes I agree it sucks huge poop.

Cashing in again I bet :sad

CHiEF 01 March 2003 01:49

Manic Miner is also out, and thats is a load of shoddily programmed pile of pants!

Anyway, surely the GBA game you should all be eagerly awaiting the most is SWOS !! (PLUG PLUG PLUG PLUG!)

at your fingertips! ;)

The Lost Vikings

I've not entered any new GBA games on this thread for a while. Righty then.

Here is a new GBA game which is more of a SNES conversion than an Amiga conversion but still. It was an Amiga game and so makes the list. :D It's the classic Amiga platformer called The Lost Vikings:

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/392/392044p1.html

Developed by Mass Media and published by Blizzard.

The GBA port of the Amiga IK+ is an exclusive to Game/Electronics Boutique/whatever they're called this week. As everyone else has said, it's the best game on the GBA. The best Amiga port, anyway. Ignoring the odd collision detection problem and some inexplicable slowdown on the attract sequence.
