Would be helpful in my arcade cabinet ;). I use hdfs for multi-disk games so I don't have to swap disks (which wouldn't make sense in a cabinet, don't you think?). Savestates would be helpful so the emulation starts directly at the main screen. Take ShadowOfTheBeast for example. You have to watch the intro sequence before you can play the game. No problem on the amiga or on my standart-pc. But when you're playing on an arcade cabinet you don't want to wait.

ok, i trust you.
but what's an arcade cabinet? a little pc inside an old real cabinet?

Yep this is my point exactly, I use hdfs as it makes the games load nicely without swapping the bleeding disks :)

I bought an old arcade cabinet and put a pc in it. I'm mostly playing arcade games in this cabinet trough MAME, but I'm also running other emulators for snes, genesis, psx and, of course, Amiga ;).

Here's a picture of my WIP cabinet.

Marcuz 26 September 2006 19:37

wow! it's very cool :)

Thank you. You have to check out the projects at BYOAC. There are guys with much more money and time on their hands ;):

Very cool cab :great

I was going to try and find a cabinet then follow some instructions from this site great:
http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm

Then I thought maybe I'll just purchase one that's already made for this purpose (bit too expensive though):

Sigh... one day ;)

Buy an old cabinet and convert it yourself. It's easy, really :).

Konrad 26 September 2006 21:17

Heh. Sorry Tony about the off-topic ;).

I saw a jamma cabinet go for £50buy-it-now on ebay recently, it looked in dam good shape, it was a "Golden T" (some golf game ive never heard of?)
The mainboard was dead but the rest worked and it even had the coinmech and door. Only downer was the monitor wasnt the best one to have apparrantly, was a bad model that can burn out easy.
I agonised over buying the dam thing but I couldnt go and collect it, the seller stated collection only and I didnt have access to a van.

I still plan to get my own cab and get it converted one day :)

Golden Tee are those cabs made by Incredible Technologies that you see in pubs all the time with the massive trackball.

Have a look here at KLOV under the letter G: and you'll see:

... Golden Tee '99
... Golden Tee 2K
... Golden Tee 3D Golf
... Golden Tee Classic
... Golden Tee Fore!
... Golden Tee Fore!
... Golden Tee Fore!
... Golden Tee Fore!
... Golden Tee Fore! 2005
... Golden Tee Golf
... Golden Tee Golf
... Golden Tee Golf
... Golden Tee Golf II
... Golden Tee Live

Not sure if one would be worth purchasing as it's probably not easy to put in proper 2 x 6 button joysticks :confused

From what I saw of the cab, I thought it wouldve been fairly easy to whip off the control board, get a new one cut and retain the trackball with a new set of buttons and joysticks. The board wouldve needed covering in whatever they use on these cabs tho

EDIT: Check this out

Hmmm alien breed would be ideal for an arcade cab :)
I liked gauntlet 1 & 2 alot so when alien breed came out I was instantly hooked
