Autostarting WHDLoad with org. game floppies

Posted this on Amibay the other day, but seeing as the coders make their home here, this is probably the better place for it :)

This is what I'm pondering:

I like having and using my original disks, but a great many games have AGA fixed, 2nd joystick button support, faster and way more convenient loading, etc. in their WHDLoad slaves.

So I'm thinking of a program to detect what disk is inserted and run the corresponding WHDload installed version. Could an application match specific unique tracks and identify the game? The disk would obviously have to be pre-scanned and manually matched to the correct game.

I would get the best of both worlds, both having the nostalgia of actually inserting the game disk - using my original disks (while minimizing the wear and tear), but also getting the "enhanced" WHDLoad version.

Daft? Neat? Possible? Already available?

Daft indeed!

Sorry man, totally in agreement with Codetapper.
Either use the disks or don't. Just because you don't actually load the game from them doesn't mean you necessarily apply less tear and wear to them. Are you gonna fake disk swaps too? :P

Wear and tear was just a bi-product. In effect I wanted something along the lines of how xbox 360 works, where you install the game, but still need the disk, although on Xbox i find it annoying - go figure.

I suppose I could pop the disk in and out from time to time, just to feel right about it :laughing

A fine pair of innovators you two are! :p

I agree with whats been said you would have to write a program to analyze part of each disk.

Why not just create some boot disk if you realy need floppys

Yes, but that's the "poor man's" alternative ;)

You propose something retrograde, not innovative :P

Don't you use big words with me! :D

I suppose I have to go alone on my endeavours, if no one can see the genius! Whichever is a matter of perspective :p

Get writing then
Poor Poor boy

Geez, I wasn't even aware of that thread. Reading through it has just made my eyes bleed! :nuts This thread's almost as daft. I can only imagine what the likes of Bert and Toni must think when they see these sort of requests.......after all, they do code in their spare time for free or little remuneration and I imagine that doing it for the sheer love of it sometimes is no incentive whatsoever. These type of threads really make me take my hat off to Bert and Toni and all coders like them! :great

I'm planning to buy a shitload of windows floppies and just copy the adf files to the disk instead of running it from the harddisk.
Some people are masochists o_O
Or in the case of that other thread, rather stupid :D

I'm not requesting anything, just having it up in what I thought would be a friendly and lighthearted discussion.

Sometimes I'm astounded by the obnoxious and piss poor attitude of some EAB members. Reminds me why I don't come here as much as I used to :great :rolleyes

(this not commenting on that other thread)
