Whizz CD32 - Let's put this to rest once and for all!

Whizz is beginning to drive me insane. Apart from EAB member Josh, I'm yet to hear of anyone who actually owns this one.

I'm not doubting it's existance, however I noticed it had either been removed or was never included in the Hall of Light. Which began to make me wonder.

The reason I ask is that there is next to no imagery of the game available online. The one which often surfaces is this image below:

http://www.player1.de/cd32/cd32whizz.jpg

However if you look closely, there is no mention on the box whatsoever of it being a CD32 version to begin with. Is it the PC version pictured here?

Was the one copy Josh had a pre-release/press copy or indeed a retail release? Or can someone else provide images of the back/sides of the boxes indicating a mention of the CD32

Any information will be greatly appreciated and will save me from further headaches :banghead

There was a topic and download here http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ighlight=Whizz

Oh I'm not disputing whether you can download it or not, more the fact I'm yet to see more evidence of a retail release. That's what I'm hoping this thread can produce for me.

Arnie 24 February 2011 13:31

I see what you mean, magazine reviews never mention CD32, unless the CD32 version was released after 1995?.

Amigajay 24 February 2011 20:27

I'm pretty sure cd32 gamer reviewed it, plus after commodore went belly up, companys like Flair simply made their games work on all amiga cd drives and not just cd32, having the cd32 logo would confuse amiga cd buyers into thinking it wouldn't work or be incompatible, I read by someone who owned a copy that it booted on a cd32 as well, so it was designed with the cd32 in mind, but packaging was changed to cater for the then growing amiga cd Market, technically I suppose it was a cd32 title though originally.

It's definitely indeed a retail release.
I've got the image from a member named "Tequila-Gold" of the German forum cd32-allianz.de (this was in June 2007 - I have the corresponce saved yet).

I don't forgot you. But it seems there's no hope anymore after the crash of my HDD to save the covers. :banghead:banghead:banghead

Cheers Josh

The image of the actual disc is on that site and it states CD32.

Nice one :) Thanks Josh

This is all I needed to see as proof :) Back to the constant eBay hunt then!

Same for Oscar too... *sigh* - I swear Sega/Nintendo collectors have it easy when it comes to locating certain games.

Hello Friend!
I'm new to the forum and all I greet http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/imag...icon_smile.gif

I am a collector of games in big boxes on the Amiga CD32 and recently bought the game Whizz in a big box.
I have a question:
If this game was released in a box if it is a fake?

here is the link to the picture:

Ps: please help as this is very important for me
Ps2: sorry for bad English because I'm still learning http://www.retrogamer.net/forum/imag.../icon_wink.gif

It looks fake to me. :(

It has boxart and a manual, and yet there are no CD inserts!

Also, the label on the edge of the box shows signs of an earlier label underneath which reads (as far as I can tell):
Code:

PC CD ROM  SVGA/VGA
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
386SX <UNREADABLE> MEMORY
HARD DISK <UNREADABLE> JOYSTICK/
KEYBOARD
SOUNDBLASTER COMPATABLE
CD MUSIC SOUNDTRACK

The parts marked <UNREADABLE> are obscured by the overprinted
Code:

AMIGA CD 32
JOYPAD CD SOUNDTRACKS

Whizz should be VGA, not SVGA. Maybe you can play on SVGA card but in lo-res.

Hundred euros? You have now nice game to play but please don't feed him with more money as he will find followers.

I thought that it is very difficult to find a game like base jumpers, Thomas Pinbal etc.

s2325 19 September 2013 22:39

I think buying old CD or floppy disk is too risky, not worth a money, unless seller is well-known to you. You can also ask on ppa.pl about their opinion, but I can not trust them, that's why I'm here.

Don't be too disappointed. I'm no expert, so that's only my opinion based on the pictures you uploaded.

I have to admit, for example, that evidence of an earlier label on the box is only indicative that it's fake; not conclusive.

You must judge for yourself the validity of the game, based on all the responses to your request for opinions.

s2325 19 September 2013 22:45

Most fun must be playing Whizz with PC analog joystick as digital were rare.

I asked, and wrote that it is extremely difficult game to win in big box like base jumpers, thomas Pinbal etc.
Yellow Sticky makes me wonder, though how that game has not been released in a box the label would never have created.

...beginning to learn English, please bear with us;)
