Competition PRO joystick

This joystick seems really nice (although the black with red buttons has a cooler look, but i have heard the blur is much better to use). Anyone have any experice with it? And does it work fine with winUAE?

I have the black & red version of the stick. After replacing some of the dip-switches with orginal ones from a broken Amiga Competition Pro it works awesome.

sarek2k 26 March 2006 01:18

mine worked fine right out of the box ;)

(Red and Black Version)

Mick_AKA 26 March 2006 05:26

I got 2 of the black and red ones, both work very well indeed :)

Never knew about these, the competition pro was one of my favourite joysticks. I got fed up of playing the older games on a pc joystick its just not the same.

quahappy 27 March 2006 22:59

Blimey..... This joystick was one of the best I bought and lasted ages (I had the see-through one)..... I also remember constantly getting blisters as well!!!
:crazy

PAH Typical AmigaKit gonna check around for this Silver blue stick see if everyone else is selling it for 12.99 i suspect the old Add a few quid on cause it's Amiga!

Never noticed this Price hike!

sarek2k 28 March 2006 20:15

as i suspected heres a cheaper link if anyone wants one! http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...6&cat=9&page=1

However they are out of stock at the moment!

Amigakit may well be the only place for somethings hence we are stuck with them but if you have a choice shop elsewhere!

Mick_AKA 29 March 2006 04:28

I think the stick on the blue one is actually metal not plastic which could explain the reason its a tad more expensive at a few places.

sarek2k 29 March 2006 04:56

The shaft / Stick on both is steel just the one thats chrome looks nicer ;)
however for anyone's info the crystal blue on the fancy blue one shatters like hell the black / red one dosent ;)

Good to know in those arguments when you loose it and throw your joystick across the room ;) with games like kick off 1 and 2 / goal / sensi soccer etc!

I got one of these from ebay and it arrived today. I can always remember the competition pro being one of the best joysticks. I can also remember not being able to afford one, I think I got my first competition pro joystick when I got my Amiga 500 plus second hand years ago. This is just what I needed for playing on the emulators, something was always missing and that was a proper joystick. Its just a shame it only works on the pc and not on the xbox. The joystick I got was a blue and silver one, I'm not right keen on the silver colour.

Unfortuanetely, the man behind WinUAE-X (XPort) isn't going to work on adding Competition Pro USB compatiblility to his great emulators :(
That's what I've found, and it is relatively recent response: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.p...c=498061&st=0# (Post #15).

I got my competition PRO today, and it works very well with winUAE. You can configure all buttons, so i guess ti will work fine for left-handed people too. (as you can make the right button primary fire). I use the small buttons as quick-save and quick-load.

Btw, what is the deal with "compability mode", why is it even needed (yeah i know, some games aren't compatible, but why?) Revenge of the mutant camles for instance (which for me doesn't work properly in compability-mode either (going left doesn't work, but everything else does).

Parsec 14 April 2006 13:15

This looks nice, has anyone got it working with MAME?

compatibility here means compatible with regular joystick configuration in ports-panel, it has nothing to do with game compatibility.

I've not tried mine with mame but you need more than one joystick button for mame. A arcade stick is a lot better choice, the competition pros better for the classic games on the spectrum, c64, amiga etc....
