BB2 development
As it's been ages since I last touched AMOS or BB2 (and as I never bought BB2), could anyone point me in the right direction for a decent tutorial on BB2 programming?
I found some, but most of them didn't get further than explaining loops and stuff. That's - erm - basic Basic knowledge. I'd like to get to know the special side of BB2 (gfx, music, sprites, ...) |
it be good if newbie programers (bb2 or AMOS) got together to create something for the Amiga (emulated or otherwise). we could all learn together to make EAB community product.
the only Amos guide i've come across is at the manual section of www.amigamos.com |
Well, let me share what I was thinking of creating (I think I posted it somewhere already).
I'd like to make a small menu application that loads automatically of my HD when booting my Amiga, so that I can select what (HD installed) game I want to play straight from my couch :) Ofcourse, knowing myself, I wouldn't be happy with just a text menu, so I think I think I'll make a customisable, cracktro-like menu. The only thing is that, before I start, I want to read completely through the BB2 documentation. I know - from experience - what a hassle it can be to try and code things without knowing the language's potential. |
Hmmm, this has actually already been done, there are quite a few 'launcher'-type programs. Not just AmiDock but also various full-screen launchers. If you look carefully on Aminet you will find some.

No thanks, let me have the pleasure of writing one myself :)

Can I say Blitz is a bitch cuz the manual is garbage.
It has also been updated quite alot with new libs etc.. Goto the Blitz2000 site and d/l amiblitz (a new updated version of blitz). It is also a brilliant resource,is extremely helpful with tutorials etc.. so erm here is the URL.. http://www.amigau.com/b2k/htdocs/ next sign up for the Blitz Mailing list which is extremely helpful send a blank email to: blitz-list-subscribe@netsoc.ucd.ie Start tinkering and asking questions.. Hope this helps... :) :) |
If Blitz isn't your cup of tea (since the manual is pure shit), then might I suggest http://www.purebasic.com ?
Not tried it myself, but I've been told it's bloody good. |
purebasic is taken from blitz and optimized, so alot of the syntax etc.. is very similar and it is as hard to learn..
If i can be arsed (Which I can't atm..) I could do a HDMenu tutorial using blitz and proper os libs (Not the bulky, shitty, buggy blitz counterparts!!).. but alas.. I can't be bothered... Doing a HD menu was actually one of my first blitz projects.. I have since wriiten a few game editors using blitz (SWOS, Valhalla3, Xtreme Racing, Detroit and others!!!) |

There is that angle also..
Blitz source code was made publicly available (Under Gnu) and has been updated and developed and released as Amiblitz which is much, much better.. There is a thriving (ish) Amiga blitz community with a mailing list etc.. so plenty of support if you get stuck :) |
Well, in which case get off your arse and learn C. Or if you already know it, use it.
