URGENT: Looking for Conner CP30254H Hard Drive
Guys,
The famous amiga musician called Chromag has kindly sent me his hard drive so that we could preserve the content of it. Sadly, the hard drive's head is broken and our only to hope to salvage its content is to find a working Conner CP30254H IDE HD. It has a total capacity of 250 megs and more info can be found right here: http://www.computerhope.com/hdd/hdd0052.htm Please check if you have working version of that HD and contact me asap. I hope that someone will be able to help. Many thanks Crown |
Let me check my room o' doom.
So far I've found: Conner CFS420A (IDE - 926 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors/track - 420MB) Conner CFS850A (IDE - 1651 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors/track - 850MB) I think they might be different... Sorry! Maybe your PCB+discs fit in it? Can I have a picture of the underside (where the PCB is) of the HDD you have? Let me know if you want me to carefully open them up to take pictures of inside and outside. I'll take a closer exploration in my cave later today to see if I can dig some more gold - I might have more Conner drives. I'm kind of busy today, preparing to move out tomorrow. |
Hi mate,
Thanks for the quick reply. Geez, I keep my fingers crossed, that would be super cool. :) I look forward to hearing from you. best regards |
I checked my HDD, I don't have that one sorry.

i have some conner drives, i have to check if one of them comes close to the 250 megs. check rev. on print for names, id code. if its the same print another could work. have done it before with another brand. most use the same print for say 200megs to 300 megs. so if it close enough i could work.

I bet that some of the models were of the same family in that it was basically a firmware difference on the control board that would allow a larger capacity format.
It's possible that the larger 370MB or even the 420MB models would work. However, you will need to do a platter swap out and you will need to do this in a clean room environtment, well maybe a paint box with fans to blow air over the hdd's and another one to exhaust ;) Of course another option is a data recover house/company which is spendy. |
Hi Exile,
Thanks for your message. I believe that any CP model should do. :) I hope that you find one. I agree with Jmmijo on that. We managed to get a company to do the swap in a white room, free of charge (an ex amiga journalist owns the company) :) |
Great news, chaps! :great
Please keep us informed how this is progressing. :spin |
Worst case, if it was something special send it here I could get it recovered in the lab.
If you didn't know I design hard drives these days. |
Hi Alexh,
Could you tell me more? You can PM if you like better. :) chers |
