C64 Thread !!!

I´m reading the newspaper every morning before I went off to work. Yesterday someone posted : "I will give 64er Magazines away for free, Phone ..... " :shocked

I just didn´t believed it (64er was THE german C64 Mag !!!) so I put the number in my mobile phone and went off to work .....

I didn´t reached that guy through the hole day and I started to wonder, if I ever will be able to get those Magazines ..... but yesterday evening I finally reached him. The Mags were still there, so I decided to drive there right away ;) Now ..... finally ...... he gave me the COMPLETE Mag Issues from 1/85 to 12/88 plus 6 special Editions and ALL FOR FREE !!

I spent the hole night with reading old C64 Mags and I wonder if the listings in there are any popular ? For example there is a PET-Emulator inside the Mag, to run PET programs on your C64 and another nice listing : Auto-Save feature (just like in Word on PeCe) in Basic :)

Anyone is interested in those programs ? There are a thousend other listings printed, so if anyone searches for something special, I will have a look for sure. Oh one more thing : I read in one Issue about the GAME MAKER (Activision ??? dunno ...) Is it common ? Does anyone got that program ?

Think that´s all for the moment....... I LOVE RETRO :p

No Problem, No Problem, which issue and article :D:D ???

RetroMan 18 October 2001 11:18

YAY :)

@Twistin'

You got that one ? Or only the box-scan ??

What I´ve read from it, you are able to create a game and save it to a standalone disk, without using the Game Maker for playing afterwards (weren´t S.E.U.C.K games also standalones ??) ... Gotta try that one for sure :p

@RetroMan

I can upload it, if there's demand for it. But I have to transfer it
first, so if Twisting has it ready for upload, he'd be way faster.

But I don't have the manuals anymore - check if you can find them at
aeh.. shit, what was the name/url of that project conserving C64 manuals
as ASCII texts ? xx.c64.org...

Without the manuals, it won't be very useful. You need to learn a (very
basic) internal language to create games..

Correct. But it's rather limited IIRC, e.g. no scrolling.

Hehe, S.E.U.C.K. rules :D

http://project64.c64.org/ has manuals, methinks :)

RetroMan 19 October 2001 19:53

@Akira

Thx for the link, I was there before but had a crash and all my favs were gone :D

RetroMan 23 October 2001 10:24

I just received my order Information for a IDE64 Interface to connect an IDE HD to the C64 :D anyone actually got such thing ? If so, are you satisfied with it ?? Is it worth the money ;) ??

Edit 1 : Instead of buying expensive Hardware, why not use the PeCe as C64 HD : http://www.c64hdd.com ;)

Edit 2 : Wanna know, why the C64 is superior to other Computers of that time ?? Here have a look : http://c64.cc65.org !!! A C64-WEB-SERVER !!!!!!!!!!! :shocked :great

Amiga1992 23 October 2001 19:42

There is a C128 web server as well ;)

You can tell this is a C64 because of the speed ;)

Anyway, not enough attention I gave to this thread, a real shame because the C= is my most loved 8 bitter, so let's get this moving.

I got my C128 in 1989. I was, as always, a late owner :) I tend to buy machines when they are starting to go downhill! :P Anyway, it was my first computer. Before I had this lil beast, I fiddled around with my cousin's 128D since 1983 or something like that (whenever teh 128D was released in Germany, that's the date)

My machine was brought from Germany (most of my family used to live in Germany). I was very eager to use that little bugge, but when it arrived... it failed :( It came failed from factory :( So until I got it to work at least a year passed. I was so dillussioned.

Nevertheless, once it worked, I Was in C= heaven. The next year or so my family brought me a 1084S, so I was even more happy. Everytime they came they used to bring briliant german diskmags with great games (64'er Sonderheft, GameOn!, Golden Disk), and great mags (64'er and teh like. Retroman will know about all this :)). This was much fun.

Teh fun lasted until 1996, when my 128 broke :( And not until this year I got a 128 again! only taht now I have an NTSC machine which doesnt run most of my german software, and teh SID sounds just wrong with its faster speed :( So Im on teh lookout for a PAL unit of any kind :)

Ok, that was, in a very brief way, my C= story. I am about to receive a game for the 128 (yes, in 128 mode. It's Kikstart), cant wait to see that one. And a shipment of 26 +4 games is arriving as well. Soccer Kid just got home. So did Gradius 2 for the MSX... Man, I spend all my cash on this stuff, but I love it :)

RetroMan 23 October 2001 22:42

Well, I´m just "rebuilding" my +4 cause it´s really fucked up :( finally I got myself a 1551 BLACK FDD for +4 only, thats the real feeling :) Oh btw. if you want any scans of my german 64er Mags, just let me know :D

Amiga1992 24 October 2001 19:18

yeah an 1551 is teh way to go, its much faster because of its parallel connection! I heard you can conenct it to a C64 but that migt be bollocks.

Hmm.. I dont remember the 64'er mags that my cousins had. Personally I have none of them :( I just haev GameOne! Golden Disk and that kind of stuff.. Really nice...!

Amiga1992 24 October 2001 20:49

Hey Retro, you said you have 3 C64Cs over there... I'm interested in one. Yes I don't like the 8580 SID chip but I rather have a PAL 8580 than an NTSC 6581, I suppose :( I still can put my 6581 in the C64C :)

How much do you want for one of these? in what condition are they? and more crucial, how much would it cost to ship one to where dragons be? :D

Well, the condition is ..... mhhhhh ...... ah I will post a pic these days so you can see yourself :) for the costs ? Well, I will check the shipping prices and come back to you then ;)

Amiga1992 24 October 2001 22:17

Alrightey
*reads doc about swapping an 8580 for a 658^*

Amiga1992 13 November 2001 16:48

Oi, where are teh pics of the C64C? Im very interested in nabbing one from you. Yesterday I borught home an argentinian breadbin, and it was half PAL and half NTSC... It displays in PAL-N but the VIC inside is NTSC! So the effect is shite to my ears :(

This machine must be a nice item for a Commodore collector... it's not the same as none of the euro/US breadbins! I can score a few if anyone's interested.

RetroMan 04 August 2002 17:10

I just went to a garage sale and bought a white C64G :D Anyone know how much they are worth these days :confused

rOuGh 04 August 2002 20:18

..

around 15-20 Euro, depends how it looks like

RetroMan 04 August 2002 20:26

It´s in mint condition :D Anyway, I don´t want to sell it, I just wanted to know if it was a good deal (and it was ;)) ..... I noticed a slightly different sound, is this, cause it got a slightly altered SID chip :confused I don´t think it´s sounding bad, it´s just ...... uhm ...... different ;)

rOuGh 04 August 2002 20:33

sid chip

all in all there were 4-5 sids, the one in your 64 have somekinda filter enabled which keeps digitized tunes at a very low volume, bad aspect. And, yes, many tunes which use ring modulation sound different, some were even composed especially for the newer SID.

here you find some SID tunes

http://www.hvsc.c64.org

ps..getting a C64 when you didnt have one before is ALWAYS a good deal. :) :D :)
