New to Amiga

Hi!

I bought an Amiga 500 plus today in a store with lots of old things and junk. I thought it would retro like to have one of these along with my 64.

The thing is, I don't now anything about the Amiga. I had a 64 in the 80'ties and then switched to pc after that.

I know I need an tv adapter to use the tv as a monitor.
There is no power supply. Så where do I find one, or can I use a modded PC power supply? Where do I get the special square plug?

Another question. I read somewhere that in order to play amiga 500 games, kickstart 1.3 is needed. How do I know which kickstart ROM is installed. Do I have to open the computer?

If it has the kickstart 2.0 I will need the either replace it with a 1.3 or use Relokick. I would prefer the hardware option. But were do I get the ROM?

What version of Workbench do I need for kickstart 1.3 and 2.0?

Can I use a pc mouse with 9-pin plug for this computer, or do I need a special Amiga mouse?

Can I use my C64 joystick with the Amiga 500?

Hope someone will help me get this nice piece of electronic running.

Ebay, amibay and the marketplace thread at this forum will help when looking for parts. You don't need workbench to run games. Just insert the game, turn on the amiga and enjoy. Some games were designed for different amigas, again, a google or http://hol.abime.net/ search will tell you.

Don't worry about the rom. If you don't know anything about the amiga, then I would advise against opening it or using parts that were not designed for it. Buy a proper amiga mouse, PSU, adapter and you will be set.

Some joysticks for other platforms have been known to work with the amiga.

All your questions could be answered with a simple forum or google search. Do the research and you will learn a lot. ;)

No, buy a scart cable and connect it to your tv with that. Don't bother with any other method.

You switch it on and look at the screen. If it indeed is an A500+ like you said, it will probably have 2.04 (the screen shows revision 37.175).

WB 1.1-1.3 are suitable for KS1.3 and 1.1-2.1 all work with 2.0. The largest working version is of course preferred.

If you're going to play games, don't bother with workbench.

Do not connect the PC mouse directly to the Amiga.

You need an Amiga mouse or a PS2 to Amiga adapter. (available from most amiga shops)

Yes.

Scart cable but without TV modulator? How can I do it?

atha 11 September 2010 19:22

Thank you.

On amigakit.com there are three types of scart -> amiga

SCART TO AMIGA (RGB) CABLE WITH AUDIO

SCART TV TO AMIGA (AV) CABLE WITH AUDIO

SCART TV TO MINIMIG RGB CABLE WITH AUDIO

Which one is the scart you are refering to?

The SCART to Amiga RGB will give the best image quality.
