Dismantling A520 modulator

Hi folks,

I'm wondering if someone might be able to advise me on this. Basically my Amiga is displaying a picture in black and white and after googling and searching I gather that some pots might need tweaking or possibly some joints re-soldering.

I'd like to give it a go however I can't for the life of me work out how to get the modulator apart. I've tried prising a card in where the casing goes together but it won't come apart. I can't see any screws and I can't feel any underneath the stickers. I just wondered if anyone knew how to get them apart without breaking them?

Ta,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I have about four of these. They definitely have the look of something that needs prising apart (no screws in sight and slots all round).

While I'm online this evening, I'll have a go at getting one open and, if I'm successful, I'll tell you how I did it! :)

Edit1: Or have a look at the link above. The top of mine feels loose already. :D

Edit2: Yep, that was easy! I just prised it apart with a wide, flat-bladed screwdriver, starting from the DB23 end and working my way along both sides to the modulator end. :great

Buy an RGB scart and don't ever talk about composhite video again!

Thanks guys,

I'll give it a go. I just want to use it as a stop gap until I can get a Scart cable.

Be careful. Open it evenly little by little, working your way around the modulator.

If you don't, the little plastic posts that hold the device together will snap and you'll end up with something ugly.

ive just had a thought(please dont laugh)is your amiga ntsc?

are you using a lcd tv?

some normal crt tv's cant see ntsc and just show black and white.when ntsc is fed into them on the cvbs port

I know of a few of these that have died and gone into black and white mode. I have a few spare if you want one.

Though as already mentioned you would be better off with an RGB Scart lead.
