Ripping MODS from .adf's

What tools do I need to do that? I plan to make myself a CD with the tunes I like.

CodyJarrett 25 November 2002 15:16

Getting hold of the mods:

Check UnExoticA first - it has most Amiga game music on it:

http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotica/

Otherwise:
- Copy the files from the ADF in an emulator or PC ADF reading software, or
- Rip them with a Amiga ripping software, an Action Replay on a real Amiga or WinFellow's mod ripper

Burning the music to CD

- Use a PC mod player to dump the mods to a wav file, or
- Play them in an Amiga mod player and export the emulated sound to a sound file on the hard disk

thanx

I've made a CD of Amiga game music before - it's great to put it into a CD player and listen to it anywhere!

-SolidSnake- 25 November 2002 16:14

Been a collector of miggy game music for some time, there are two titles iv'e not managed to get or rip... both lucasarts

Mi2 and fate of atlantis (adventure)

Are there really none that have them ripped or is it that noen have managed to create a player for these tunes

PS: do anyone know if there's an maxtrax player for pc... have one with delitracker on the miggy... but i've would like one for the pc too...

mtb 25 November 2002 21:18

To rip them, do the following:

use winfellow ( but no aga ) to dump the memory content - to do this, while playing or something else, press f11 and goto debug - sound - dump memory. So write all the chip mem content to a file.
[ winfellow rips only protracker & clones ]

Then use exotic ripper to rip them, loading the chipmem and hunting for mods. [ maybe with exoticgui ]. - i've read somewhere in an aiab package there is all [ music package i think ].

To write mods to wav files:

a) use delitracker amiga [ also emulated amiga ] and the deli14bit genie that produces great sound - no click, panning, dsp effects [ and saves to aif, you have to convert to wav ] - but unfortunatly not all mods are recorded.

b) use i pc mod player - like deliplayer pc. [ no noclick option ]

c) use uade for linux. [ no noclick option ]

Also:

Is it possible to dump mem with winuae?

@CodyJarrett
- Play them in an Amiga mod player and export the emulated sound to a sound file on the hard disk

the exported files are not avi only?

Djay 26 November 2002 22:55

you could also get a hold of the Action Replay 3 Rom.... and ripp mods that way (i think its only for A500 systems thou)

if you wanna ripp mods from AGA titles then you could try using Action Replay 4 Floppy disk version!!!

mtb - Fellow has an option to export the sound to a wav file.

BippyM 26 November 2002 23:09

Or use WinUAE's output function and only select an audio codec, then use AVItoWAV to convert the file to wav, use an Audio editor to cut the track out, then compress to MP3 :)

Thanx to all

@ djay:

i have already the action replay 3 rom, i have to read the manual and try to rip them.

@ codyjarrett

i didn't know that, but the sound it's not so good in Fellow.

@ bippym

i didn't know there was a avitowav converter, and winuae has got a mixed option - else if you hear the sound with headphones it sound bad.

@ kodoichi

i'll try.

Does Winuae have a dumpmem function?

mtb 29 November 2002 09:10

I have read the action replay manual: very interesting, but it can rip only standard mods like protracker.

mtb 03 December 2002 22:32

Modplug is the best in terms of quality, but it supports only few protracker clones.

Uade for the other is really good - but if there is something better klet me know.

Thanx in adv

Check out mod4win too
it features mod>wav as well.

Save State will do the same thing. If you want to reduce size of save state file, reduce to 512K chipmem only (assuming game will run in that of course). The less Amiga memory available to WinUAE will result in a smaller Save State file. Easier to transport to a real Amiga if thats what you want to do.

PC Players

Try the new release version of DeliPlayer from www.deliplayer.com

DP2rc3. Many improvements, especially in the replay department.

Does Mod4Win run on XP?

old thread revival...

hello.
As this question popped up on a german board:

Is there a tool available which automatically extract wav out of adf.
In detail some kind of GUI where the source is AMIGAGAMENAME.adf and output destination a folder on your harddisk where all MODS of the AMIGAGAME are extracted to?

One member claims to have seen one...but can't remember the title of this util any more...

chip 26 August 2018 14:25

Old thread revival 2 ;)

ExoticRipper (for Amiga) has a special function called "DiskRead" which is used to rip modules directly from the disk :agree

this function is not that much useful, since data on disk are often packed/crunched.
Secondly i think, this function is useful only for NDOS disks!

chip 26 August 2018 18:31

Another tool that i use for disk ripping is EagleRipper

EagleRipper is "inside" EaglePlayer (for amiga)

In this case there's no function like "DiskRead" of ExoticRipper

But, anyway, you can load directly the ADF as file to make a disk rip :agree
