Games To Avoid (WHDLoad)

Now that I have my Amiga 1200 up and running, I'm in the process of filling every byte of my 2GB HD with WHDLoad games. However I need to cut out about 1.5GB of games to make them fit. So the question becomes, what games (with WHDLoads) aren't worth the bytes to store them? I've already used Lemon Amiga's bottom 100 list, but what about games that either aren't very playable yet using WHDLoad or escaped the list somehow?

Getting rid of all the Soccer (Football) and Rugby games freed up a ton of space. Apologies to my friends over in the UK, but Football Manager games just aren't my style. I did keep a few of the cricket games however. :)

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure where it fit.

ok, here is smal list: Aliex (unplayable without lightgun), All American Tag-Team Wrestling (crap), American Gladiators (crap), Arcade Fruit Machine (boring), Arcade Trivia Quiz (boring)

Just a thought : Have you already sorted the different language versions out?

Yep. That freed up some space. :)

Sensi 17 June 2009 19:44

Check some of many "Best/Most popular/Most favourite games" threads and keep those which are recommended (and exist in whd version) :)

Marcuz 17 June 2009 19:54

eh...

you could try this search:

http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?...s&N_nb_sps=yes

if you speak more languages, you can add those games that have that language only; if the game has no screenshots on HOL, probably people couldd not give you counseil anyway on it;

this makes 1330 games, a number you can thin with the worst games list on EAB, maybe

or:

http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?...s&N_nb_sps=yes

1281 games with reviews on Amiga Magazines Rack

or:

http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?...es&N_nb_wp=yes

102 ! games with wikipedia entries!

Shoonay 17 June 2009 19:54

If you're not exactly a fan of adventure games you can delete most of the shitty ones that take lots of space (see HOL ;))

Marcuz 17 June 2009 20:00

now, if only HOL would produce dats for CLRmame on request... :spin

Hobbe 18 June 2009 08:14

Whatever you do, stay away from Castlevania!

frikilokooo 18 June 2009 08:35

Delete Beneath Steel Sky speech version.Educational games.Games with language you do not understand although even if they are not multi-lingual.All the different fastram versions unused of the same game and CD32 versions(usually no sound)Anyway you'll have 4GB size in games still:D

@frikilokooo
I bet he has already done all that ;)

@Tempest 2084
You could delete games of a genre that you don't like, but deleting games based on other peoples oppinions and then never look at them again might not be the best approach ;) I would say you pack your HD full with games, start playing and delete those which you don't like. After some time fill up the free space again and so on :D You'll discover many gems and also many games to delete this way.

The main problem is that I don't know what genre many games fall into unless the title of the rom makes it clear. I mean Luxor to me sounds either like an Egyptian adventure or a puzzle game of some sort, but apparently it's a really bad space shooter. Anyone got a list of *gasp* educational games that I can zap? :)

Do the CD32 games work on a 1200? When given the choice of the AGA verison and the CD32 version I kept the AGA one, but there are a few CD32 only games that I kept (like DOC 2).

What's wrong with Beneath a Steel Sky?

Yes.

If you're unsure of what genre a game falls in then you can find out pretty quickly if you search HOL.

Personally, I burned several CDs full of KG's WHD packs and I sometimes sat down, unarchived random games I never heard of and tried them out for the sheer hell of it, just to see what they were like. A lot of them were garbage but I found a few gems in there too. The only way you'll ever know if you like a game or not is to just try it.

TCD 18 June 2009 20:28

^ What Graham said (and which I also hinted at before ;))
Oh, but you surely can dump this one : http://hol.abime.net/199 :D

86mb of pure gaming goodness or 86mb of average filler?

BTW this block of text is supposedly hidden in the exe file. Funny if a bit sad...

At the beginning the programmers were happy and did rejoice at their task, for the Amiga before them did shineth and was full of promise. But then they did look closer and did see'th the awful truth; it's floppies were tiny and sloweth (rareth was its hard drive). And so small was it's memory that did at first appear large; queereth also was its configuration(s). Then they did findeth another Amiga, and this was slightly different from the first. Then a third, and this was different again. All different, but not really better, for all were pseudo backward compatible. But, eventually, it did come to pass that Steel Sky was implemented on a 1meg os-legal CBM Amiga. And the programmers looked and saw that it was indeed a miracle. But they were not joyous and instead did weep for nobody knew just what had been done.

Mhm. You just made me try BASS on a 1 meg Amiga and see if what sounds like a noskill whine is indeed a miracle. Apologies beforehand if this is the code to end all efforts of coders, but well... I'm just going to try it. :)
