Thank you Adrian, this is the first time I see someone publishing statistics like this.

Adrian Cummings 18 January 2021 14:47

No problem I hope it helps anybody publishing on Amiga really.

I will update them again on November 7th 2021 for the full years report since it went on sale of course.

For that extra work that is going into a CD32 version, 21 sold is not much.
Just what I expected.

Radertified 18 January 2021 17:22

This is really cool of you to post, Adrian. I, and I'm sure others, find it interesting so it's definitely appreciated :)

DanScott 18 January 2021 18:40

Would be interesting to know, how much is sold through the website, and how many are through eBay?

Adrian Cummings 19 January 2021 10:11

@Steril707 Yes probably would of sold some more if pressed Physical CD for CD32 but not enough more to actually warrant pressing the CD's IMHO.

@Radertified No worries :great

@DanScott All the Physical sales were/are routed through eBay and all the Digital sales are via itch.io. My own small front page at www.MutationSoftware.uk is just a front end for all that via simple buy buttons in reality, mainly just to tie it all together in one lump offering to any potential customers.

[Update]

Wiz ended up selling approx. 700 units in total in all it's Amiga forms combined since it was released in 2020.

I'll do the same and similar sales report with CyberPunks 2 in due course.

AMIGAAAAA!

TCD 12 April 2023 10:10

Oh wow, thank you for the numbers Adrian :great It's not surprising, but I'd have guessed it would be a bit more. Looking forward to the numbers for CyberPunks 2 :) (and fingers crossed they are higher)

Adrian Cummings 12 April 2023 10:38

I think maybe it's also (lower sales) perhaps because I target just AGA machines these days myself.
The magic 1000 barrier is hard to reach for sure.
CyberPunks 2 will have a slightly larger push behind it than Wiz had and I've at least increased the amount of Big Glossy Boxes for it's release.
I can build on the end sales by doing more smaller runs as I progress if demand arises.

I want other budding retro game and hobby developers like myself to have real world numbers. No black art voodoo mumbo jumbo or numberwang needed.

What simply remains after all that tho, is you've really got to want to do it to actually publish a digital & physical Amiga game these days IMHO.
It's a lot of work from game inception to getting a physical box into a players/collectors hands for sure.

:great It is really difficult to find sales numbers for Amiga games let alone recent ones. So let's hope these numbers make it easier for game developers to decide in which way to publish their games.

Amigajay 12 April 2023 10:53

Glad that latest figure nearly doubled from the earlier number, i can imagine it would be harder to make another new game (for profit) if the numbers peaked out after 2 months.

Btw why do you think just making AGA only games would give higher sales than an OCS game that would work on all hardware? Graphical finesse or the ability to make a game that you wouldn't be able to otherwise?

Adrian Cummings 12 April 2023 11:15

I think the only reason I would've had better sales, is perhaps that I would have an even wider user base if I were to target OCS and ECS too perhaps?

That said I tried that route back in the mid 90's I recall and sales became worse quickly for some reason, so I'm probably just better sticking with AGA machines in reality even now.

Also with the advent of Amiga 500 Mini type machines and emulation, I think AGA is just fine and it all just comes down to the type and quality of game on offer.

Nothing against OCS/ECS Amiga but feel everything has been done on those already. At least there is a bit more room to do stuff on AGA. I'm still learning myself 30+ years on TBH.

acidbottle 12 April 2023 12:23

Thanks Adrian for disclosing your sales figures, it is difficult to gauge how much Amiga interest there actually is these days, plus not all Amiga users are gamers, I would assume. I can see why some might not want to share these figures but it is interesting and helpful nonetheless.

On my first project, which is free/pay what you like, the unique downloads are currently just shy of 1400, with around 10% of those with contributions (to charity).

I think physical editions, if you can make them profitable, a very good way to go, a lot of people do like to collect afterall!

TCD 12 April 2023 12:35

Thank you for sharing the numbers acidbottle :great It's not a huge community that still plays new Amiga games.

Adrian Cummings 12 April 2023 12:40

That is good going and well done from me! :)

I have played about with the idea of offering free digital download and then paid physical alongside for the collectors. Sadly tho physical is quite expensive in small runs and therefore the maths breaks down to allow me to produce the physical versions and everything that goes with it.

I just offer free digital demo instead.

vulture 12 April 2023 12:47

700 is a good number! Congrats!

It was pretty good and it paid for itself in terms of the physical versions at least.

That'll do me!

AMIGAAAAA!
