Quake 1 laggy animation
Someone knows why Quake 1 runs very fast and smooth, but enemies only move in laggy slow-motion? When they explode or release a backpack it's also smooth.
Picasso IV 800x600+ screenmode, 60fps. Tried all ports on Aminet including AWinQuake and Quake68K but nothing changes... |

That's normal for the original Quake, character animations are not interpolated so they look all jerky and nasty.

Ok, I saw everything (rockets, exploded corpses etc.) was in sync except the slow-motion animations and thought it could have been a bug of some sort in the Amiga port...

I never ever played Quake on Amiga, only on PC, but that looks like normal behaviour for me. Quake's animations were always jerky like that, and your video sums it up well. But why is the sound so tinny?

I've left default settings: Paula 11KHz
I've just tested the Windows GLQuake port and has the same problem with animations, so I can confirm is normal behaviour for Quake 1. |
Funnily enough, I tried to play Quake on WinUAE but never had any joy: the sound would come on but no visuals. However, Quake 2 ran OK.
As we know, in Quake 1, the animations were jerky, but John Carmack, for Quake 2, used frame interpolation to make the animations in that game much smoother. I think the source port for Quake 2 on Amiga included that. |
