Addams Family 2mb chip not loading
I've been trying to run this on my Amiga with 2MB chip and it doesn't seem to load unfortunately. :sad
I noticed the HD and Power LED start flickering at the start which would indicate it is starting to load/OS Swap, but it just stops in a couple of seconds on a black screen. I also tested it on a WinUAE setup with 2MB chip and it does the same thing. I've tried all the common WHDLoad tooltypes I can think of but no luck The old JST version loads but you have to use a really old JST version and Ideally I'd prefer to use the WHDLoad version. :) Any tips guys? |
No chance as it seems. Tried with no startup sequence and disabled all devices except for one hd partition. Also tried the halfnhalf tool which splits the 2 MB chip to 1 MB chip/1MB fast.

Maybe Codetapper will chime in, I don't want to leave a bug report yet just in case this is a possible user error or I've missed something obvious. |
Submit it as a bug report. The disk image I have here seems like it can be shrunk to begin with, $bb800 is the last valid data, after that it's unformatted (but there are multiple versions so would have to check that) - that'd save 150kb of memory to preload it.
But there might be another bug. This will be low priority for me I admit. |
OK I found a problem, caused by a copperlist getting corrupted after the operating system switched back to the game. Check the zone for a beta of v1.4.
I've disabled the extra 512k that it used (I think just for buffering files) and you can cut the diskimage down to $bb800 bytes. If you notice anything missing, let me know. This config seems to allow you to preload the entire game on an A1200 without any fast memory, and even if some memory is used up, it loads from disk OK in my brief tests. If it's all good, I'll package it up properly tomorrow. |
Quickly tested .slave this morning and it works great, Thanks for the prompt fix, appreciated. :)
